Gustafi
Gustafi are a Croatian folk rock band formed in Vodnjan, a small town in Istria, in 1980. The band was founded by Edi Maružin, Vlado Maružin, Čedomir Mošnja, Igor Arih and Livio Morosin and was originally called ''Gustaph y njegovi dobri duhovi''. They released their first album titled ''V'' in 1985. The band is known for their eclectic style which combines Istrian folk music and rock, along with blues and Tex-Mex influences. They are considered one of the most prominent examples of the so-called ''ča-val'' (Cha Wave), a type of pop rock music accompanied with lyrics sung in the chakavian dialect spoken in Istria, which became popular in the mid-1990s in Croatia (other notable performers of ''ča-val'' are Alen Vitasović and Šajeta). Chakavian Dialect
Chakavian or Čakavian (, , , sh-Latn, čakavski proper name: or own name: ''čokovski, čakavski, čekavski'') is a South Slavic regiolect or language spoken primarily by Croats along the Adriatic coast, in the historical regions of Dalmatia, Istria, Croatian Littoral and parts of coastal and southern Central Croatia (now collectively referred to as Adriatic Croatia). Chakavian, like Kajkavian, is not spoken in Serbo-Croatian-speaking regions beyond Croatia. Chakavian was the basis for early literary standards in Croatia. Vodnjan
Vodnjan (; it, Dignano) is a town in Istria County, Croatia, located about 10 kilometers north of the largest city in Istria, Pula. History According to the legend, it developed out of the association of seven villas which were part of the colonial goods of Pula-Pola. Alen Vitasović
Alen Vitasović (born 5 July 1968) is a Croatian pop singer and songwriter. Born in Pula, many of his songs are about his native Istria and mostly written in Chakavian dialect. Vitasović began his music career early, learning how to play the harmonica at the age of five, and by twelve he was singing in bands, mainly in the tourist regions around Istria. After finishing music school in Pula, where he learned to play the piano and saxophone, he continued to play in bands across Croatia and Slovenia, until he was discovered while working at Radio HR Pula in the early 1990s. In 1993, Vitasović released his first single and continued to tour all over Croatia, making a name for himself. Vitasović continued with his success, winning numerous festivals and awards throughout Croatia. Blues is a music genre and musical form which originated in the Deep South of the United States around the 1860s.
