Gurugu is a community in Sagnarigu Municipal in the Northern Region of Ghana. Its neighboring communities are Jisonaayili, Sognaayili, Kumbuyili and Chogu-Yapalsi. Sagnarigu Municipal District
Sagnarigu Municipal District is one of the sixteen districts in Northern Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tamale Municipal District in 1988, which was created from the former West Dagomba District Council, until a small northern part of the district was split off to create Sagnarigu District on 24 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tamale Metropolitan District Tamale Metropolitan District is one of the sixteen districts in Northern Region, Ghana. Jisonaayili
Jisonaayili is a community in Sagnarigu District in the Northern Region of Ghana. It is a linear settlement concentrated along the ''Jisonayili Road'' that divides the community into two halves. Its immediate neighbors are Kanvili, Gurugu, Chogu-Yapalsi and Kamina Barracks. The community is served with a public library located in the Jisonaayili Community Center. The community is under the leadership of a local chief enstooled by the main chief of Tamale (Gukpenaa). The present chief of Jisonaayili (2015), Alhaji Alhassan Abu was installed in February 2015 after his predecessor (Bomaha-naa Mahamadu) died in 2012. The Northern Region is one of the sixteen regions of Ghana. Dagomba People
The Dagombas are a Gur ethnic group of northern Ghana, numbering more than 2.3 million people. They inhabit the Northern Region of Ghana in the sparse savanna region below the sahelian belt, known as the Sudan. They speak the Dagbani language which belongs to the Mole-Dagbani sub-group of the Gur languages. There are around 1 to 2 million speakers of Dagbani. The Dagomba are historically related to the Mossi people. The Mohi/Mossi now have their homeland in central present-day Burkina Faso. The homeland of the Dagomba is called Dagbon and covers about 20,000 km2 in area. Naa Gbewaa is regarded as the founder of Dagbon. Dagomba are one of the ethnic groups with a sophisticated oral tradition woven around drums and other musical instruments.
