Gursken
Gursken or Haugsbygda is a village in the municipality of Sande in Møre og Romsdal county in the western part of Norway. The village is situated on a narrow strip of relatively flat land along the Gursken fjord on the west side of the island of Gurskøya. Gursken Church is located in the village. Neighboring villages are Gjerde (to the north) and Larsnes (to the south). The former Norwegian football player Jan Åge Fjørtoft hails from Gursken. Gursken Church
Gursken Church ( no, Gursken kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the municipality of Sande in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Gursken on the island of Gurskøya. It is one of the two churches for the Gursken parish which is part of the Søre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1919 using plans drawn up by the architect Eduard Carlén. The church seats about 270 people. History The parish received permission to build a church in Gursken in 1918. The parish hired the Swedish architect Eduard Carlén, who is best known for having designed a large number of tenements in Kristiania in the 1890s. The wooden long church was built in 1918-1919. Jan Åge Fjørtoft (born 10 January 1967) is a Norwegian former professional footballer. A powerful centre forward with goalscoring ability, he played professionally in Norway, Austria, England and Germany. He appeared in 71 international matches (15 as captain) and scored 20 goals for the Norway national team. His nickname was ''Fjøra'', meaning ''The Feather'' in Norwegian. Club career Fjørtoft started his senior career at Hødd (2. league Norway) as 17-year-old, scoring 9 league goals in 17 matches in the 1984 season. Gurskøya
Gurskøya is an island in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is shared by the municipalities of Sande and Herøy. The villages of Gursken, Larsnes, and Moldtustranda are located on the island. The southern part of the island was historically part of the municipality of Rovde. In 2015, there were 4,647 residents living on the island.
