Gunvald Bøe
Gunvald Bøe (1903/1904 – 21 November 1967) was a Norwegian archivist and historian. He was hired in the National Archival Services of Norway in 1947, and was promoted to chief archivist of Eastern Norway (including the country's capital Oslo) in 1960. He was also a co-editor of the biographical dictionary ''Norsk biografisk leksikon'' from 1961 to his death, succeeding Einar Jansen Einar Jansen (27 March 1893 – 13 December 1960) was a Norwegian historian, genealogist and archivist. He was born in Røyken as the son of priest Jens Jonas Jansen (1844–1912) and Jenny Therese Schroeter (1863–1942). He was a nephew of Jens ... when he died. His time as co-editor spanned volumes 14, 15 and 16, released between 1962 and 1969 (the latter posthumously). He died in November 1967, at age 63. National Archival Services Of Norway
The National Archival Services of Norway ( no, Arkivverket) is a Norwegian government agency that is responsible for keeping state archives, conducts control of public archiving and works to preserve private archives. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs and consists of the National Archive (), eight regional state archives () and The Sámi Archives (). The organization has 190 employees and about of materials. The oldest complete document is from 1189. It is a letter (a so-called diploma) issued on 28 January 1189 by Pope Clement III (1187-1191) to all clergymen in Norway. Eastern Norway
Eastern Norway ( nb, Østlandet, nn, Austlandet) is the geographical region of the south-eastern part of Norway. It consists of the counties Vestfold og Telemark, Viken, Oslo and Innlandet. Eastern Norway is by far the most populous region of Norway. It contains the country's capital, Oslo, which is Norway's most populous city. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken. Norsk Biografisk Leksikon
is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. It was published by Aschehoug with economic support from the state. bought the rights to NBL1 from Aschehoug in 1995, and after a pre-project in 1996–97 the work for a new edition began in 1998. The project had economic support from the Fritt Ord Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, and the second edition (NBL2) was launched in the years 1999–2005, including 10 volumes and around 5,700 articles. Einar Jansen
Einar Jansen (27 March 1893 – 13 December 1960) was a Norwegian historian, genealogist and archivist. He was born in Røyken as the son of priest Jens Jonas Jansen (1844–1912) and Jenny Therese Schroeter (1863–1942). He was a nephew of Jens Fredrik Schroeter. The family soon moved to Sandvika, and after finishing his secondary education in 1911, he enrolled in philology at the University of Kristiania, graduating with the cand.philol. degree in 1919. His final paper, ''Det suspensive lovvetos anvendelse i norsk konstitusjonel praksis'', mixed history and constitutional law. He worked in the National Archives of Norway from 1921 to 1934, and then as the leader of the National Archival Services of Norway in Bergen from 1934 to 1960.
