Gul Alam Wazir
The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM; ps, پښتون ژغورنې غورځنګ ''Paṣtūn Zhghōrənē Ghōrźang''; ur, , lit=Pashtun Protection Movement) is a social movement for Pashtun human rights based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, Pakistan. It was founded in May 2014 by eight students in Dera Ismail Khan. On 1 February 2018, the name of the movement was changed from "Mahsud Tahafuz Movement" (' Mahsud Protection Movement') to "Pashtun Tahafuz Movement." During PTM's public demonstrations and sit-ins since February 2018, several demands were presented to the Pakistani government and military, including punishment to the retired police officer Rao Anwar, a truth and reconciliation commission on extrajudicial killings in the country, presenting missing persons before courts, and removal of landmines from the Pashtun tribal areas. Human rights movement refers to a nongovernmental social movement engaged in activism related to the issues of human rights. The foundations of the global human rights movement involve resistance to: colonialism, imperialism, slavery, racism, segregation, patriarchy, and oppression of indigenous peoples. A key principle of the human rights movement is its appeal to universality: the idea that all human beings should struggle in solidarity for a common set of basic conditions that has to be followed by all. Rao Anwar
Rao Anwar Ahmed Khan ( ur, ) is a retired Pakistani police officer who served as a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in the Malir District of Karachi. He is known as the "encounter specialist" of the Sindh Police because of his extrajudicial killings in alleged encounters, carrying out at least 444 killings between 2011 and 2018. After the killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud, Anwar was suspended from his post on 20 January 2018. On 10 December 2019, Anwar was blacklisted by the United States Department of the Treasury in the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List under the Global Magnitsky Act for his atrocities during his tenure, including the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud. Arman Loni
Mohammad Ibrahim Arman Loni ( ps, محمد ابراهیم ارمان لوڼی), commonly known as Arman Loni (or Arman Luni), was a teacher of Pashto literature, poet, and one of the founding leaders of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). Arman died on 2 February 2019 after a clash with the police, which followed his participation at a protest sit-in outside Loralai Press Club. The four-day sit-in had been organized by PTM activists, including Arman and his sister Wranga Loni, to protest against the 2019 Loralai attack, in which eight policemen and a civilian had been killed by the Pakistani Taliban on 29 January 2019. His family and PTM activists said that as the police attacked him and other activists, a policeman struck Arman on the head with a gun, causing him to collapse. Wranga Loni
Wranga Loni ( ps, وړانګه لوڼۍ, ur, وڑانگہ لونی; also spelled Wrranga Lunri or Wrranga Luni) is a human rights activist and writer from Sanjawi in northern Balochistan, Pakistan. She is a leading member of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), as well as a founding member of the Waak Movement, which aims to bring political awareness among Pashtun women. Sanna Ejaz
Sanna Ejaz ( ps, ثنا اعجاز) or Sana Ijaz, is a journalist and human rights activist from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. She is a leading member of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), as well as a founding member of the Waak Movement, which aims to bring political awareness among Pashtun women. She focuses on advocacy to promote women's role in peacebuilding, reconciliation, and social activism. She was formerly the vice-president of the youth wing of Awami National Party (ANP). Gulalai Ismail ( ps, ; ur, گلالئی اسماعیل) is a Pashtun human rights activist from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. She is the chairperson of Aware Girls, a global ambassador for Humanists International, and a leading member of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). She speaks on the subject of promoting peace and women's empowerment at conferences internationally, and is the recipient of the International Humanist of the Year Award, the Chirac Prize for Conflict Prevention, and the Anna Politkovskaya Award. Fazal Khan Advocate ( ps, فضل خان) is a advocate, lawyer, human rights activists, human rights activist, and a leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). He is also the president of the Army Public School Peshawar Shuhada (Martyrs) Forum. Muhammad Ali Wazir (Pashto/Urdu: ) is a Pakistani Pashtun politician who is the co-founder of a human rights movement, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM).
