Guglielmo Micheli
Guglielmo Micheli (October 12, 1866 – September 7, 1926) was an Italian painter. Micheli's work consisted mainly of landscapes and seascapes using oils and watercolors. Biography Micheli was born in Livorno. He was awarded a stipend named in honor of artist Michelangelo Bastoni, allowing him to enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, where he was a pupil of Natale Betti. The school was then directed by Giovanni Fattori. He frequently wrote to Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, who had been a fellow student at the academy, along with Plinio Nomellini, Mario Puccini, Francesco Fanelli, and Ferruccio Pagni. Influenced by Volpedo and others, Micheli initially painted in a style recalling the Macchiaioli painters, before developing his own style. He also made engravings and designed illustrations for books. In 1888, he married Guglielmina Paganucci, granddaughter of the prominent sculptor of Livorno, Giovanni Paganucci. Oscar Ghiglia (painter)
Oscar Alberto Ghiglia (born 13 August 1938) is an Italian classical guitarist. Biography Early years Born in Livorno to an artistic family – his father and grandfather were both famed painters, his mother an accomplished pianist – Oscar Ghiglia had to choose between a path strewn with brushes and colours and a world cut into harmony and melody. Though his early choice produced a few hundred water colours and a number of oil paintings, he soon realized music was his way. For this decision he thanks his father, who one day made him pose for a painting showing a guitarist. For this he had to hold his father's guitar, a companion to his artistic musings in front of his forming works. This painting was the start to a lifetime of disciplined dedication to music. Renato Natali
Renato Natali (10 May 1883 – 7 March 1979) was an Italian painter, member of the post-Macchiaioli group of painters in Livorno during the first half of the 20th century. He often painted proletarian neighborhoods of the industrial port city of Livorno, as well as genre and cabaret scenes. Biography He was born in Livorno. He did not attend a formal academy, although he was said to have learned from Guglielmo Micheli, and was a member of the Gruppo Labronico of painters that met in the Caffè Bardi in Livorno. He provided some of the decorations for the establishment. He traveled to Paris for two years in 1912, but is said to have ''fallen in love with Livorno while in Paris''. Gino Romiti (1881–1967) was an Italian painter, active in Livorno. Biography He was born in Livorno, and trained under Guglielmo Micheli, along with Manlio Martinelli, Llewelyn Lloyd, Amedeo Modigliani, and Aristide Sommati. In 1898, he exhibited at the Permanente di Milano nel 1898, and at the Venetian Esposizione d’Arte in 1908 and 1912, returning to the Biennale in 1952. Manlio Martinelli (1884–1974) was an Italian painter active in Livorno. Biography He was born in Livorno, and trained under Guglielmo Micheli, along with Gino Romiti, Llewelyn Lloyd, Amedeo Modigliani, and Aristide Sommati. He was a member of the ''Gruppo Labronico'' of painters that met in the Caffè Bardi. He differed from the Macchiaioli schools who had portrayed landscapes and scenery in naturalistic light; his themes were intimate and centered on people: often portraits, but could be iconic scenes of mothers and children or just toddlers. His colors were bright, with solid blocks, more expressionist than divisionist.
