Guerilla Records
Guerilla Records was a British record label that was founded in 1990 by Dick O'Dell and John Gosling, with William Orbit. It specialised in a style of progressive house that they preferred to call "dub house", with artists such as Leftfield, Bass-O-Matic, React2Rhythm, Spooky (house music duo), Spooky, Moody Boyz, Felix Da Housecat, and Billie Ray Martin, and was a key player in the development of the progressive house sound in the UK in the early 1990s. The label's distinctive blue camouflage generic sleeve was designed by graphic designer Steven Cook, Steve Cook, known for his design and art direction of the British comic 2000 AD (comic), 2000 AD. Guerilla Records Ltd was wound up in 1995, and finally dissolved in 2003. Guerilla Sleeve
Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which small groups of combatants, such as paramilitary personnel, armed civilians, or irregulars, use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility, to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military. Although the term "guerrilla warfare" was coined in the context of the Peninsular War in the 19th century, the tactical methods of guerrilla warfare have long been in use. Spooky (house Music Duo)
Spooky are a British electronic music production and DJ duo consisting of Duncan Forbes and Charlie May. History They debuted with '' Gargantuan'' in 1993 after signing to Guerilla Records. In 1995 and 1996, they released three EPs (''Clank'', ''Stereo'' and ''Shunt'') on their own Generic Records label, followed quickly in mid-1996 by their second album, ''Found Sound''. Two singles from this album were released: "Fingerbobs" and "Bamboo". Charlie May collaborated with Sasha on his 1999 '' Xpander'' EP and 2000's " Scorchio", and in 2002 he co-produced some tracks on Sasha's '' Airdrawndagger'' album. ''2000 AD'' is a weekly British science fiction-oriented comic magazine. As a comics anthology it serialises stories in each issue (known as "progs") and was first published by IPC Magazines in 1977, the first issue dated 26 February. Since 2000 it has been published by Rebellion Developments. ''2000 AD'' is most noted for its ''Judge Dredd'' stories, and has been contributed to by a number of artists and writers who became renowned in the field internationally, such as Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Mike McMahon, John Wagner, Alan Grant and Garth Ennis. Steven Cook
Steven Cook is a People of the United Kingdom, British artist, photographer, and graphic designer. Best known for his work in the comics field, Cook was art director and designer for the British comic ''2000 AD (comics), 2000 AD'' (1988–2001). During this time he produced a number of striking cover illustrations along with its distinctive, Cultural icon, iconic logo still in use to this day. He has also worked for Marvel Comics, Deadline magazine, Manga publishing, DC Comics and Vertigo comics for whom he created the anniversary cover for VERTIGO X, a special edition celebrating ten years of DC's adult-fiction imprint. Birgit Dieckmann, known professionally as Billie Ray Martin, is a German singer and songwriter, known for her single "Your Loving Arms", which reached the top 10 of both the UK Singles Chart (#6) and the Irish Singles Chart (#8) in 1995, and reached number one on the US Dance Club Chart. Felix da Housecat (born Felix Stallings Jr., August 25, 1971) is an American DJ and record producer, mostly known for house music and electro. Felix is regarded as a member of the second wave of Chicago house Musical career Early life Stallings developed an interest in the emergent Chicago house music scene at a young age. While a student at Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois in the mid-1980s, a chance introduction to acid house pioneer DJ Pierre gave the then 15-year-old Stallings his break, and under the patronage and guidance of Pierre, he released his first single, "Phantasy Girl," in 1987. The Moody Boys or Moody Boyz are Tony Thorpe's UK-based record production and remix outfit, active since 1988. The Moody Boys were closely linked with The KLF - and in particular with KLF member Jimmy Cauty - until the KLF's retirement in 1992, but it is not known whether Cauty was ever officially a member of the Moody Boys or merely a close collaborator. Bass-O-Matic
In cryptography, BassOmatic is the symmetric-key cipher designed by Phil Zimmermann as part of his email encryption software PGP (in the first release, version 1.0). Comments in the source code indicate that he had been designing the cipher since as early as 1988, but it was not publicly released until 1991. After Eli Biham pointed out to him several serious weaknesses in the BassOmatic algorithm over lunch at the 1991 CRYPTO conference, Zimmermann replaced it with IDEA in subsequent versions of PGP. The name is explained in this comment from the source code: "BassOmatic gets its name from an old Dan Aykroyd ''Saturday Night Live'' skit involving a blender and a whole fish. Leftfield
Leftfield are a British electronic music duo formed in 1989 as the duo of Neil Barnes and Paul Daley (the latter formerly of the Rivals and A Man Called Adam). The duo was very influential in the evolution of electronic music in the 1990s, with ''Mixmag'' describing them as "the single most influential production team working in British dance music". As with many of their contemporaries, such as the Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim, Leftfield are notable for their use of guest vocalists in their works. Among those involved were Toni Halliday on "Original", Johnny Rotten on " Open Up", Djum Djum on "Afro-Left", and Earl 16 and Cheshire Cat on "Release the Pressure".
