Gudrun Dorothea Ræder
Gudrun Dorothea Ræder (née Martius; 21 April 1908 – 26 September 1998) was a Norwegian diplomat. She was the first female Norwegian diplomat, serving at the legation in London. Personal life Ræder was born in Göttingen on 21 April 1908, a daughter of Rudolf Ancus Martius and Dorothea Robertson. In 1940 she married Johan Georg A. Ræder. They were the parents of Peter Nicolay Ræder (born 1943). She died in Bærum in 1998. Career Ræder was appointed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1938, and served as secretary in London from 1938 to 1939, thus becoming the first female Norwegian diplomat. From November 1939 to March 1940 she took part in negotiations on trade agreements between Norway and Germany, and between Norway and Great Britain, as secretary for both the Norwegian delegations. Trygve Lie
Trygve Halvdan Lie ( , ; 16 July 1896 – 30 December 1968) was a Norwegians, Norwegian politician, labour leader, government official and author. He served as Norwegian foreign minister during the critical years of the Nygaardsvold's Cabinet, Norwegian government in exile in London from 1940 to 1945. From 1946 to 1952 he was the Secretary-General of the United Nations#Secretaries-General, first Secretary-General of the United Nations. Early life Lie was born in Kristiania (now Oslo) on 16 July 1896. His father, carpenter Martin Lie, left the family to emigrate to the United States in 1902, and was never heard from again. Trygve grew up under poor conditions together with his mother Hulda and a sister who was six at the time. His mother ran a boarding house and café in Grorud in Oslo. It brought to an end the non-socialist minority Governments that had been dominating politics since the introduction of the parliamentary system in 1884, and replaced it with stable Labour Governments that, with the exception of during World War II, would last until the coalition cabinet Lyng in 1963. Halvdan Koht
Halvdan Koht (7 July 1873 – 12 December 1965) was a Norwegian historian and politician representing the Labour Party. Born in the north of Norway to a fairly distinguished family, he soon became interested in politics and history. Starting his political career in the Liberal Party, he switched to the Labour Party around the turn of the 20th century. He represented that party in the Bærum municipal council for parts of the interwar period. He was never elected a member of Parliament, but served nonetheless as Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1935 to 1940, as part of the government-in-exile following Germany's invasion of Norway. In the latter capacity he sought to preserve Norway's neutrality in the Second World War, a decision that garnered him political infamy.
