Gu Songfen
Gu Songfen (; born 4 February 1930) is a Chinese aircraft designer. He participated in the design of the Shenyang JJ-1, China's first jet trainer, and was the chief designer of the Shenyang J-8 and J-8II, China's first high-speed, high-altitude interceptor fighter jets. He served as vice president and chief designer of the Shenyang Aircraft Design Institute, and is an academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Early life Gu was born 4 February 1930 in Suzhou, Jiangsu, Republic of China. He is the younger son of Gu Tinglong (), a well known sinologist and calligrapher. His given name "Songfen" comes from a passage of the 3rd-century treatise '' Wen fu'' written by Lu Ji. In 1935, Gu Tinglong accepted a job at the Yenching University library, and moved the family to Beijing. Shenyang J-8
The Shenyang J-8 (Simplified Chinese characters, Chinese: 歼-8; NATO reporting name: Finback) is an interceptor aircraft developed by the Shenyang Aircraft Design Institute, 601 Institute (Shenyang) in the People's Republic of China (PRC). It was conceived in the early 1960s as a low-risk program based on enlarging the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21F, a version of which the PRC was producing as the Chengdu J-7. The original J-8 experienced protracted development due to disruption from the Cultural Revolution; the prototypes first flew in 1969 but the design was not finalized until 1979 with the aircraft entering service in 1980. The J-8II/J-8B (NATO reporting name: Finback-B) was a major development of the J-8 and was essentially a new aircraft. Lu Ji (261–303), courtesy name Shiheng, was a Chinese essayist, military general, politician, and writer who lived during the late Three Kingdoms period and Jin dynasty of China. He was the fourth son of Lu Kang, a general of the state of Eastern Wu in the Three Kingdoms period, and a grandson of Lu Xun, a prominent general and statesman who served as the third Imperial Chancellor of Eastern Wu.
