Dreiskau-Muckern
Dreiskau-Muckern is an ''Ortsteil'' (division) of the municipality Großpösna in the Landkreis Leipzig in Saxony, Germany. It was formed in 1957 from the former municipalities Dreiskau and Muckern, and became part of Großpösna in 1997. History The two villages were separate until the mid of the 20th century. Dreiskau was first mentioned in 1317, as Trizko. The Catholic parish Dreiskau was part of the Diocese of Merseburg. The Protestant parish belonged until 1690 to Magdeborn, then to Störmthal. The church was built from 1740 to 1741. From 1952 Dreiskau is part of the district. Muckern was first mentioned in 1433, as Mockeryn in a document kept in the Domarchiv Merseburg. It belonged to the ''Rittergut'' of the noble family . Störmthal
Störmthal is a village, part of Großpösna in the Leipzig (district), Leipzig district in Saxony, Germany. It is known for its church in Baroque architecture, Baroque style. The organ, an early work by Zacharias Hildebrandt, was played and inaugurated by Johann Sebastian Bach and is still in mostly the condition of Bach's time. History The area was settled from the 11th century when the village was founded. The first document dates from 1306, when the village was mentioned in a (register of interest) of the Pegau Abbey. From 1350, the village was ruled by different noble families. From 1675, Störmthal was ruled by Statz Friedrich von Fullen, who had an influential position at the Dresden court. He made the village an independent parish in 1690 and had the first village school opened a year later. From 1693, he began building a with an extended park. Leipzig (district)
Leipzig (official name: ''Landkreis Leipzig'') is a district ('' Kreis'') in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It is named after the city Leipzig, which is partly surrounded by the district, but not part of it. It borders (from the west and clockwise) the state Saxony-Anhalt, the urban district Leipzig, the districts Nordsachsen and Mittelsachsen, and the state Thuringia. Geography The district is located in the Leipzig Bay and is rather flat. Individual hills are found in the north (Hohburg Hills) and south of the district. Its larger rivers are the Mulde, Pleiße and White Elster. Also worth mentioning are the many lakes of the Leipzig Neuseenland in the west of the county, that were formed by flooding old brown coal pits. Botanischer Garten Für Arznei- Und Gewürzpflanzen Oberholz
The Botanischer Garten für Arznei- und Gewürzpflanzen Oberholz (2 hectares), or less formally the Botanischer Garten Oberholz, is a botanical garden specializing in medical plants and spices. It is located at Störmthaler Weg 2 in Oberholz, a small suburb southeast of Großpösna, Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, and open daily in the warmer months; admission is free. The garden was established in 1936 as an adjunct to Leipzig Botanical Garden to provide pharmacists with a practical knowledge of medicinal and aromatic plants. It was revived in 1945, after World War II, by the initiative of a vocational teacher, and from 1948-2003 was maintained by the city of Leipzig as a municipal botanical garden. Since 2003 it has been maintained by the Association for Vocational Promotion of Women in Saxony. Today the garden contains over 400 species, and is cultivated as a teaching and display garden.
