Groslay
Groslay () is a commune in the Val-d'Oise department in Île-de-France in northern France. It is located 15 km north of Paris, the capital. Boundaries The commune is bounded with Montmorency, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, Sarcelles, Deuil-la-Barre and Montmagny. History The name comes from ''Graua'', a Gaulish word, that means "terrain with pebbles". The nature of the soil was particularly favorable for wine growing, which was exploited here from antiquity until the late 19th century phylloxera epidemic. The name was first mentioned in an act of donations from the Abbey of Saint-Denis in 862. The first master of Groslay was Odon or Éudes of Groslay in the late 11th century. In the 13th century, the village became a fief of the House of Montmorency, in the 17th century of the House of Condé. Groslay Station
Groslay station is a rail station located in Groslay, France. It is on the Épinay-Villetaneuse–Le Tréport-Mers railway. The station is used by Transilien Transilien Paris-Nord, line H trains from Paris to Persan-Beaumont and Luzarches. The daily number of passengers was estimated to be between 500 and 2,000 in 2002. The line from Gare d'Épinay-Villetaneuse, Épinay to Gare de Persan-Beaumont, Persan-Beaumont via Gare de Montsoult-Maffliers, Montsoult was opened by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord (Nord Railway Company) in 1877. The House of Montmorency, pronounced , was one of the oldest and most distinguished noble families in France. Origins The family name Montmorency derived from their castle in the ''pays de France'', recorded in Latin as ''Mons Maurentiacus'', in 993. Transilien () is the brand name given to the commuter rail network serving Île-de-France, the region surrounding and including the city of Paris. The network consists of eight lines: Transilien Line H, H, Transilien Line J, J, Transilien Line K, K, Transilien Line L, L, Transilien Line N, N, Transilien Line U, U, Transilien Line P, P and Transilien Line R, R, each operated by SNCF, the state-owned railway of France. In France, the ''Tribunal d'instance'' (literally "Court of First Instance") is a judicial lower court of record of first instance for general civil suits and includes a criminal division, the Police Court (''tribunal de police''), which hears cases of misdemeanors or summary offences (''contraventions'').
