Grimsby Secondary School
Grimsby Secondary School (GSS) was a secondary school in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada. Operated by the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), it has a student body of approximately 700 year-to-year. Due to construction delays of the West Niagara Secondary School, the 2022-2023 school year will still take place in the GSS building, but under the new name. Planned closure On March 28, 2017, the District School Board of Niagara voted in favour of a motion to close three high schools, including Grimsby Secondary School, in favour of a single large high school to be constructed at 5699 King Street in Beamsville. Under the current plan, Grimsby Secondary School will close in 2022 following the 2021–2022 school year, and the new amalgamated high school, named West Niagara Secondary School, will open in September 2022. Grimsby is a town on Lake Ontario in the Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada. Grimsby is at the eastern end of the Hamilton Census Metropolitan Area. It is named after the English fishing town of Grimsby in north-east Lincolnshire. The majority of residents reside in the area bounded by Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment, home to a section of the Bruce Trail. Grimsby has experienced significant growth over the past two decades due to its position between Hamilton and St. Catharines. Growth is limited by the natural boundaries of Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. Some residents feel development is detrimental to the town as orchards close to the town centre are used for residential development; however, most of the orchards in Grimsby were replaced by houses between the 1950s and 1980s and very few orchards remain. The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN, known as English-language Public District School Board No. 22 prior to 1999) is a school board in the public school system of Ontario, Canada, in the Regional Municipality of Niagara. Its head office is in St. Catharines. The DSBN operates schools in each of the twelve municipalities in the region. It employs close to 2,500 instructional staff to teach over 43,000 students in 97 elementary schools and 18 secondary schools. West Niagara Secondary School
West Niagara Secondary School is a secondary school in Beamsville, Ontario, Canada, and operated by the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN). It replaced the former Grimsby Secondary School and Beamsville District Secondary School in 2022. West Niagara is currently the newest secondary school in the Niagara Region. Construction delays The construction of the school oversaw many delays, and was originally planned to open in September 2020. One of the more notable delays was the extensive soil cleanup required due to contaminants found on the site. The COVID-19 pandemic caused sufficient delay that the school would not open for the 2022–2023 school year. Beamsville (Canada 2021 Census, 2021 Urban area estimated population 13,323) is a community that is part of the town of Lincoln, Ontario, Canada. It is located along the southern shore of Lake Ontario and lies within the fruit belt of the Niagara Peninsula. Samuel Earl Oosterhoff (born August 22, 1997) is a Canadian politician. Oosterhoff is currently the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for the riding of Niagara West. Oosterhoff is a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario and was first elected at the age of 19 in a November 2016 byelection, the youngest Ontario MPP to ever be elected.
