Grigore Brâncuș
Grigore Brâncuș (March 20, 1929, Peștișani, Romania – April 2, 2022, Bucharest) was a Romanian linguist and philologist, member of the Romanian Academy. Activity Brâncuș completed his university studies at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Bucharest in 1953, the same University where he would continue his academic activity for nearly half a century 18 of them as the head of the Department of Romanian Language. Brâncuș completed his PhD in Historical Linguistics and Balkanology under the supervision of Alexandru Rosetti and was known for his research in the interlinguistic relations between Albanian and Romanian. Peștișani
Peștișani () is a commune in Gorj County, Oltenia, Romania. It is composed of seven villages: Boroșteni, Brădiceni, Frâncești, Gureni, Hobița, Peștișani and Seuca. Hobița village is the birthplace of sculptor Constantin Brâncuși. Peștișani is attested by the Romanian Government as a tourist resort of local interest. Geography Peștișani is located 20 km west of Târgu Jiu, the capital of Gorj County, on the national road DN67D. Positioned in the southern part of the Carpathian Mountains, specifically in the Getic Subcarpathians, on the Bistrița river, Peștișani has a mediterranean climate. Romanian Academy
The Romanian Academy ( ro, Academia Română ) is a cultural forum founded in Bucharest, Romania, in 1866. It covers the scientific, artistic and literary domains. The academy has 181 active members who are elected for life. Alexandru Rosetti
Alexandru Rosetti (October 20, 1895 – February 27, 1990) was a Romanian linguist, editor, and memoirist. Born in Bucharest, his parents were Petre Rosetti Bălănescu, a lawyer and landowner, and his wife Zoe (''née'' Cornescu), whose father wrote the 1874 ''Manualul vânătorului'', prefaced with ''Pseudo-cynegeticos'' by Alexandru Odobescu. He attended primary school in Câmpulung, followed by his native city's Gheorghe Lazăr High School, from which he graduated in 1914. Between 1916 and 1920, he studied at the literature faculty of the University of Bucharest. His time there was interrupted by World War I: sent to the front, he was wounded in 1917 during the Battle of Mărășești. His professors included Ovid Densusianu, Ioan Bianu, , and Dimitrie Onciul. The Order of the Star of Romania (Romanian: ''Ordinul Steaua României'') is Romania's highest civil Order and second highest State decoration after the defunct Order of Michael the Brave. It is awarded by the President of Romania. It has five ranks, from lowest to the highest: Officer, Commander, Grand Officer, Grand Cross, and Grand Cross with Collar. History In 1863, Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the Domnitor of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, asked the Romanian representative to Paris to contact the then well-known jewellery house Krétly, to manufacture a state decoration. Krétly presented a model, which was immediately accepted by the domnitor, and based on his agreement, 1,000 pieces of the order were made.
