Griffith Evans (politician)
Griffith Parry Evans (22 March 1869 – 16 August 1943) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1941 until his death. He was a member of the Country Party. Early life Evans was born in Wagga Wagga, the son of William Evans, a builder and was educated at Sydney Boys High School, and the Law Faculty of the University of Sydney. In his youth, he was a noted amateur cyclist. He was an articled clerk in 1888 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1893. Evans established a practice in West Wyalong and became active in local community organizations including the Farmers and Settlers Association, the hospital board and the Progress Association, he became a Councillor of the Country Party in 1938–40. Evans also owned an extensive sheep station near West Wyalong after 1909. Lachlan was an New South Wales Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. The 1938 New South Wales state election was held on 26 March 1938. This election was for all of the 90 seats in the 32nd New South Wales Legislative Assembly and was conducted in single member constituencies with compulsory preferential voting. The result of the election was: * United Australia Party 37 seats * Country Party 22 seats * Australian Labor Party 28 seats * Industrial Labor Party 2 seats *Independent 1 seat. Ernest Buttenshaw
Ernest Albert Buttenshaw (23 May 187626 June 1950) was an Australian politician and member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1917 until 1932. He was a member of the Nationalist Party of Australia until 1920, when he helped to establish the Progressive Party. After 1925 he was a member of its successor, the Country Party. He was the party leader between 1925 and 1932 and held a number of government ministries. Buttenshaw was born in Young, New South Wales. His father, was a blacksmith and he was educated to elementary level at Young Superior School. He initially worked as a delivery boy for the Post Office and later became a farmer. He was active in farmer's political groups and was the Shire President of Bland Shire in 1914-1918. Buttenshaw was elected as the Nationalist member for Lachlan at the 1917 NSW state election. The 1941 New South Wales state election was held on 10 May 1941. This election was for all of the 90 seats in the 33rd New South Wales Legislative Assembly and was conducted in single-member constituencies with compulsory preferential voting. Background The replacement of Jack Lang by William McKell as leader of the Labor Party in 1939 reunited and rejuvenated the party. A small number of Labor party members continued to support the far-left-wing State Labor Party (Hughes-Evans) but that had minimal impact on the election results.
