Grenada At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Grenada competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's tenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. Meleni Rodney
Meleni Rodney, OLY (born 27 June 1998) is a Grenadian sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. She participated at the Summer Youth Olympics in 2014 and received a bronze medal. In that same year she was named athlete of the year along with Kirani James. In 2016, she was a part of the women's 4×400m Relay team which secured a Silver Medal at the 2016 OECS Track & Field Championships with teammates Amanda Crawford, Kenisha Pascal and Kanika Beckles. In 2017 Meleni experience a return to form resulting in improvements in her personal best in the 200m at the Norcal finals as well in the 400m dash at the CCCAA California State Championships. After recording a personal best time in the 400m at the 2019 Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational Meleni was named Pac-12 Athlete of the Week On 26 May 2020 Meleni was one of 12 UCLA Bruins who received USTFCCCA Indoor All-America Accolades as part of the Women's 4x400m Relay team. Grenada At The 2019 Pan American Games
Grenada competed at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019. On July 16, 2019 the Grenada Olympic Committee announced a team of 11 athletes (seven men and four women) in three sports (athletics, swimming and tennis). The team will also consist of seven officials. During the opening ceremony of the games, javelin thrower Anderson Peters carried the flag of the country as part of the parade of nations. Peters would later go on to win the country's first ever Pan American Games gold medal. The women's 100 metre backstroke event at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held from 25 to 27 July 2021 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. It was the event's twenty-third consecutive appearance, having been held at every edition since 1924. The men's 100 metre freestyle event at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held from 27 to 29 July 2021 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. There were approximately 60 competitors from approximately 45 nations, with the ultimate numbers determined through the ongoing selection process, including universality places. The medals for the competition were presented by Dick Pound, Canada; IOC Member, and the medalists' bouquets were presented by Dr. Mohamed Diop, Senegal; FINA Bureau Member. Background It was the event's 28th appearance, having been held at every edition except 1900. Lindon Victor
Lindon Victor (born 28 February 1993) is a Grenadian athlete who competes in the decathlon. He is the 2023 World bronze medalist and a two-time Commonwealth Games champion (2018–2022). Career In 2016, he scored 8446 points with nine personal bests at the Southeastern Conference Championship decathlon, breaking both the SEC record and the Grenadian National Record , the latter of which was set by his brother, Kurt Felix, at the 2015 IAAF World Championships. Victor was named 2016 SEC Field Athlete of the Year. Victor qualified for and represented Grenada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the decathlon. The men's decathlon event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 4 and 5 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. 23 athletes competed. Background This was the 25th appearance of the event, having appeared in every Summer Olympics since 1912. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter up to 3 qualified athletes in the men's decathlon event if all athletes meet the entry standard or qualify by ranking during the qualifying period. (The limit of 3 has been in place since the 1930 Olympic Congress.) The qualifying standard is 8350 points. This standard was "set for the sole purpose of qualifying athletes with exceptional performances unable to qualify through the IAAF World Rankings pathway." The men's javelin throw event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 4 and 7 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. Approximately 35 athletes competed; the exact number depended on how many nations use universality places to enter athletes in addition to the 32 qualifying through distance or ranking (one universality place was used in 2016). Anderson Peters
Anderson Peters (born 21 October 1997) is a Grenadian javelin thrower and the 2019 and 2022 world champion in the event. He is a multiple time CARIFTA Games champion at the discipline and in 2016 earned a bronze medal at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, setting a new Grenadian national record and OECS record at the same time. Career He gave the performance of the championships at the 2016 CARIFTA Games, a meet record of , and was awarded the Austin Sealy Trophy. In January 2017 it was announced that Anderson was given a full scholarship to Mississippi State University. He started his season with a throw of 75.29m at the 2017 Bulldog Relays.
