Grenada At The 2019 Pan American Games
Grenada competed at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019. On July 16, 2019 the Grenada Olympic Committee announced a team of 11 athletes (seven men and four women) in three sports (athletics, swimming and tennis). The team will also consist of seven officials. During the opening ceremony of the games, javelin thrower Anderson Peters carried the flag of the country as part of the parade of nations. Peters would later go on to win the country's first ever Pan American Games gold medal. Kurt Felix (athlete)
Kurt Felix (born 4 July 1988) is a Grenadian athlete who competes in the decathlon. He was the NCAA 2012 Division I Decathlon Champion and was named the Mountain West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year. He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2016 Summer Olympics and won the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. On 24–25 July 2017, Kurt participated in the 21st Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf-meeting which was part of the IAAF Combined Events Challenge. He placed second at the meet with a score of 8509 points and set a meeting record in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 72.80m. On 5 January 2018 at the National Sports Awards, Kurt received the Presidential Award of Merrit for 2017 from the Grenada Olympic Committee. List Of Pan American Games Records In Athletics
The Pan American Games is a quadrennial event which began in 1951. The Pan American Sports Organization accepts only athletes who are representing one of the organisation's member states (most of which are within the Americas) and recognises records set at editions of the Pan American Games. The Games records in athletics are the best marks set in competitions at the Games. The athletics events at the Games are divided into four groups: track events (including sprints, middle- and long-distance running, hurdling and relays), field events (including javelin, discus, hammer, pole vault, long and triple jumps), road events and combined events (the heptathlon and decathlon). Josh Boateng (born 28 March 1997) is a Grenadian shot put and discus thrower. He is the Grenadian national record holder in both events and the national junior record holder in the discus. College career 2018 On 20 January 2018, Boateng broke the national record (Indoor) Shot Put throw of 16.77m at the Pima Aztec Indoor Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. On 24 March 2018 he reset the Outdoor Shot Put Record with a throw of 17.78m at the UTEP Springtime Invitational. He further improved on the Shot Put record on 3 May at the NJCAA Region I Track & Field Championships in Mesa, Arizona with a throw of 18.08m. Kanika Alana Beckles (born 3 October 1991, in Saint Joseph) is a Trinidadian-born Grenadian sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. She represented Grenada at the 2012 Summer Olympics but did not start. She reached the semifinals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, after missing large parts of the 2012 and 2013 seasons with a torn hamstring and ACL surgery.
