Gregory John Keighery
Gregory John Keighery is an Australian botanist. Since 2003 he has been a senior research scientist at the Science and Conservation Division of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions of Western Australia (formerly the Department of Environment and Conservation then the Department of Parks and Wildlife). His main expertise is in the native plants of Western Australia, particularly weed flora and the Apiaceae, Liliaceae and Myrtaceae. Career Keighery has a BSc in plant genetics from the University of Western Australia. From 1974 to 1983 he worked in biosystematics at the Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth, Western Australia. Perth
Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Melaleuca Keigheryi
''Melaleuca keigheryi'' is a shrub in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae with white, papery bark and is endemic to the west coast of Western Australia. In spring, it has heads of pink flowers which fade in color to become white. Description ''Melaleuca keigheryi'' is a shrub with papery bark growing to tall. Its leaves are arranged alternately and are long, wide, flat, egg-shaped and with a sort, blunt tip. They are also unusual for the genus in that they have pinnate rather than longitudinal veins. The flowers are a shade of pink to purple and fade to white. They are arranged in heads on the ends of branches which continue to grow after flowering and sometimes also in the upper leaf axils. The heads are up to in diameter and composed of 4 to 9 groups of flowers in threes. The petals are long and fall off as the flower opens. ''Macarthuria'' is a genus of dicotyledonous plants belonging to the family Macarthuriaceae, and consists of about 9 species which are endemic to Australia. Kings Park, (Noongar: ''Kaarta Gar-up'') is a park overlooking Perth Water and the central business district of Perth, Western Australia. The park is a mixture of grassed parkland, botanical gardens and natural bushland on Mount Eliza with two-thirds of the grounds conserved as native bushland.
