Greg Harding
Greg Harding (born 17 September 1976) is an Australian rules footballer. He played for both the Fremantle Football Club and the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by Fremantle from Claremont in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) as a zone selection in the 1995 AFL Draft and played mainly as a defender. He made his AFL debut in the opening round Western Derby in 1996. In round 4 of that year, he was awarded the weekly nomination for the AFL Rising Star award. In 1997 he had his best season for Fremantle, playing in 18 games and coming fifth in the club's best and fairest award. Injuries and poor form hampered his career after 1997, and he played only a further 33 games in the next three seasons for Fremantle before being traded to the West Coast Eagles in return for Daniel Metropolis and a draft selection that would be used to draft Dion Woods. Claremont Football Club
The Claremont Football Club, nicknamed Tigers, is an Australian rules football club based in Claremont, Western Australia, that currently plays in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). Its official colours are navy blue and gold. Formed as the "Cottesloe Beach Football Club" in 1906, the club entering the WAFL in 1925 as the "Claremont-Cottesloe Football Club"', changing its name to the present in 1935. Claremont have won 12 senior men's premierships since entering the competition, including most recently the 2011 and 2012 premierships. Best And Fairest
In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final. Dion Woods
Dion Woods (born 25 January 1982) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Fremantle in the Australian Football League (AFL) between 2001 and 2005. Woods was drafted from Perth in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) as the 51st selection in the 2000 AFL draft and played mainly as a defender. Tall and athletic, Woods showed much promise in his first year, winning the Fremantle's Beacon Award in 2001 for the best young player and also being nominated for the AFL Rising Star award. His career peaked in 2003 playing in 21 matches, including Fremantle's first ever finals match, as a key member of the "no-name defence". However he struggled to maintain his form and spent most of the 2005 season playing for Perth before being delisted at the end of that season. He has since continued to play in the WAFL. Daniel Metropolis (born 17 March 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers between 1992 and 2001. Career The son of former Subiaco player Peter Metropolis, he was drafted from Subiaco in the WAFL with selection 16 in the 1991 AFL Draft . He starred in his debut game in 1992 against St Kilda, kicking 6 goals, including four goals with his first four kicks in the AFL. The Western Derby () is the name given to the Australian rules football match between the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers, who both participate in the Australian Football League (AFL). West Australian Football League
The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from March to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. The league also runs reserves, colts (under-19) and women's competitions. The WAFL was founded in 1885 as the West Australian Football Association (WAFA), and has undergone a variety of name changes since then, re-adopting its current name in 2001.
