Greenwood, Clarksville, Tennessee
Greenwood is a neighborhood in the southern part of the city of Clarksville, Tennessee, USA. Located directly south of downtown, Greenwood is often defined as the area delimited by South Riverside Drive to the west, the Mason Rudolph golf course to the east, Ashland City Road ( US-41A Bypass/ TN-12) to the south, and Crossland Avenue to the north. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Clarksville. The cemetery that lies within the community, and also bears its name, is one of the oldest in the state of Tennessee, and is the final resting place of Frank Sutton of Sgt. Carter fame from the show ''Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.''. Olympic gold medalist Wilma Rudolph is also buried in Greenwood at a much smaller cemetery, adjacent to the Mason Rudolph golf course. Clarksville is the county seat of Montgomery County, Tennessee, United States. It is the fifth-largest city in the state behind Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. The city had a population of 166,722 as of the 2020 United States census. It is the principal central city of the Clarksville, TN–KY metropolitan statistical area, which consists of Montgomery and Stewart counties in Tennessee, and Christian and Trigg counties in Kentucky. Clarksville High School is a public high school located in Clarksville in Montgomery County, Tennessee. It is part of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. The original building was built in 1906 but the school moved to the current building in 1968. Clarksville High School holds the CMCSS Business Academy which provides an open enrollment option for entering freshman for Montgomery county. Its mascot is Wiley the Wildcat. The School colors are Purple and Gold, and the sports teams wear Purple and Gold with some Black. Athletics are part of the TSSAA. The School meets expectations for the Standardized Tests and ACT's. Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) is a system of schools in Montgomery County, Tennessee serving a population of over 152,934 people. It is the seventh largest district in Tennessee and has earned whole district accreditation. CMCSS is also ISO 9001 certified. Jean Luna-Vedder is currently the Director of Schools.
