Greenleaf Music
Greenleaf Music is an independent music company directed by American trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas. In addition to recordings on CD, vinyl, and digital formats, Greenleaf Music houses sheet music and podcasts, as well as supporting tours by its community of artists. Founded in 2005 by Douglas and Mike Friedman (of Premonition Records), Greenleaf Music has released albums by Dave Douglas, Donny McCaslin, Nicole Mitchell, Harrison Bankhead, Hamid Drake, Kneebody, Michael Bates, Curtis Robert Macdonald, Linda May Han Oh, Matt Ulery, Ryan Keberle, Rudy Royston, Greg Ward and Mareike Wiening. The Greenleaf Music podcast, A Noise From The Deep, has produced over 70 episodes. The label operates in New York and is distributed by Redeye Worldwide. Greenleaf Music also has an independent subscription store through the Bandcamp platform. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles. New Orleans jazz began in the early 1910s, combining earlier brass band marches, French quadrilles, biguine, ragtime and blues with collective polyphonic improvisation. Live At The Jazz Standard
''Live at the Jazz Standard'' is the 27th album by trumpeter Dave Douglas and the first to feature him exclusively on cornet. It was released on the Greenleaf label in 2007 and features live performances by Douglas, Donny McCaslin, Uri Caine, James Genus and Clarence Penn. Douglas recorded his Quintet's performances at the Jazz Standard nightclub in New York City in December 2006 making all twelve complete sets available for download within days of the performances. This 2-CD set was distilled from those concerts. Nels Cline
Nels Courtney Cline (born January 4, 1956) is an American guitarist and composer. He has been the guitarist for the band Wilco since 2004. In the 1980s he played jazz, often in collaboration with his twin brother Alex Cline, Alex, a percussionist. He has worked with musicians in punk rock, punk and alternative rock such as Carla Bozulich and the Geraldine Fibbers, Mike Watt and Thurston Moore. He leads the Nels Cline Singers, Nels Cline Trio, and the Nels Cline 4. Cline was named the 82nd greatest guitarist of all time by ''Rolling Stone'' magazine in November 2011. Career Cline began to play guitar at age 12 when his twin brother Alex Cline started playing drums. The brothers developed together musically, playing in a rock band called Homogenized Goo. The album is named after Fred Kaplan's book ''Dark Territory: The Secret History of Cyber War '' released in 2016. Brass is an alloy of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), in proportions which can be varied to achieve different mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties.
