Greenfaulds
Greenfaulds ( gd, A' Bhuaile Ghlas, IPA: ™ËˆvuÉ™ləˈɣɫ̪as̪ is an area of the town of Cumbernauld in Scotland. Greenfaulds was a half council half private estate built in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The main road through the estate is a ring road with the private sector being on the outside of the road and the council side being in the inside. Although originally council houses, a large portion of the housing stock are now privately owned. The road names are associated with Walter Scott. Environment The top and centre of the estate has been left fairly untouched by development meaning that from the approach it appears to have an extensive canopy of green. Greenfaulds is a short walk away from an area of countryside including a stretch of the Luggie Water. It is considered a pleasant retreat for kids, couples, dog owners and horse riders. Greenfaulds High School
Greenfaulds High School is a mixed, non-denominational six-year comprehensive secondary school. The original building was opened in 1971, while the new building was first opened to the public on 29 September 2016, and the old building has now been demolished. Greenfaulds is situated in the west of Cumbernauld and provides a service to the Greenfaulds, Ravenswood, Condorrat, Westfield, Eastfield, Balloch, Craigmarloch areas and parts of Seafar. The Head Teacher is James Vaugh-Sharp. The current school building has a maximum capacity of 1,450 pupils, making it the largest school in the Lanarskhire area and one of the largest in Scotland. Greenfaulds has six associated primary schools, which are Baird Memorial, Condorrat, Eastfield, Ravenswood, Westfield, and Woodlands. Cumbernauld
Cumbernauld (; gd, Comar nan Allt, meeting of the streams) is a large town in the historic county of Dunbartonshire and council area of North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is the tenth most-populous locality in Scotland and the most populated town in North Lanarkshire, positioned in the centre of Scotland's Central Belt. Geographically, Cumbernauld sits between east and west, being on the Scottish watershed between the Forth and the Clyde; however, it is culturally more weighted towards Glasgow and the New Town's planners aimed to fill 80% of its houses from Scotland's largest city to reduce housing pressure there. Traces of Roman occupation are still visible, for example at Westerwood and, less conspicuously, north of the M80 where the legionaries surfaced the Via Flavii, later called the "Auld Cley Road". Lenziemill
Lenziemill is the site one of Cumbernauld's several industrial estates, built as satellite developments on the periphery of the Scottish town's residential areas. Toponymy The etymology of the name is uncertain but may distinguish the mill here in ancient Easter Lenzie from a nearby flax mill at Pettycastle in Blairlinn in the parish of Old Monklands. History Several other old maps show Lenzie Mill with various spellings including maps by William Forrest, and John Thomson. There used to be a corn mill which was powered by water from the Luggie. Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was created for the 2005 general election, replacing Cumbernauld and Kilsyth and part of Strathkelvin and Bearsden. The constituency covers the north of the North Lanarkshire council area, and small eastern and northern part of the East Dunbartonshire council area. Dunbartonshire ( gd, Siorrachd Dhùn Breatann) or the County of Dumbarton is a historic county, lieutenancy area and registration county in the west central Lowlands of Scotland lying to the north of the River Clyde. Dunbartonshire borders Perthshire to the north, Stirlingshire to the east, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire to the south, and Argyllshire to the west. The boundaries with Lanarkshire and Stirlingshire are split in two owing to the existence of an exclave around Cumbernauld (''see below''). The area had previously been part of the historic district of Lennox, which was a duchy in the Peerage of Scotland related to the Duke of Lennox. Carbrain
Carbrain /kar 'bren/ is a neighbourhood in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire in Scotland. It gets a brief mention on William Roy's eighteenth century map of the Scottish Lowlands. In the nineteenth century it was no more than a farm steading. An early map shows just a few buildings existed in 1864. By the start of the First World War it had not grown significantly, although there was a school near the railway station. It was sometimes spelled Carbrane. Even in 1956 Carbrain was mostly farmland with a small burn flowing through it. The map seems to show this flowing possibly down the Gully and eventually feeding the Red Burn in the Vault Glen. This burn isn't named so can't be identified with the Horseward Burn from historic maps. Derek Lyddon and James Latimer designed much of the housing in the 1960s. Condorrat
Condorrat is a former village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Like Luggiebank, Castlecary and Dullatur, it predates the new town of Cumbernauld, but unlike those Condorrat was officially included in the designated new town area. Since then it has officially been part of Cumbernauld although it retains some of its own distinctive character. Dalshannon Farm and cottages were located in the area west of the original town and farm, and north of the Luggie. So also was a corn mill called Wood Mill. Road signs show they are is now in the western part of Condorrat towards Mollinsburn. Condorrat now has many of its own facilities, including a health centre, 3 primary schools and a library. Governance Up until 1975, Condorrat sat within Cumbernauld Burgh and Dunbartonshire County.
