Jules Greenbaum
Jules Greenbaum (5 January 1867 – 1 November 1924) was a German pioneering film producer. He founded the production companies Deutsche Bioscope, Deutsche Vitascope and Greenbaum-Film and was a dominant figure in German cinema in the years before the First World War. He is also known for his early experiments with sound films around twenty years before the success of ''The Jazz Singer'' made them a more established feature of cinema. Early career and Deutsche Bioscope Greenbaum was born in Berlin in 1867 as Julius Grünbaum. He married Emma Karstein in c1887 and moved to Chicago in the United States, where his first son Georg was born 1 November 1889. He originally worked in the textile industry, but on his return to Berlin in 1895 aged around 42 Greenbaum moved into the newly established film business and founded Deutsche Bioscope (german: Deutsche Bioskop) in 1899. Harrison Greenbaum (born September 14, 1986) is an American stand-up comedian and comedy writer. Early life Greenbaum was born in Manhattan, New York, and grew up in Woodmere, New York, on Long Island. He graduated as valedictorian of his class at Lawrence High School. Norman Joel Greenbaum (born November 20, 1942) is an American singer-songwriter. He is primarily known for his 1969 song "Spirit in the Sky". Early life Greenbaum was born in Malden, Massachusetts. He was raised in an Orthodox Jewish household and attended Hebrew school at Congregation Beth Israel. His initial interest in music was sparked by Southern blues music and the folk music that was popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He performed with various bands in high school and studied music at Boston University for two years. Gus Greenbaum (February 26, 1893 – December 3, 1958) was an American gangster in the casino industry, best known for taking over management of the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas after the murder of co-founder Bugsy Siegel. Sidney Greenbaum (31 December 1929 – 28 May 1996) was a British scholar of the English language and of linguistics. He was Quain Professor of English language and literature at the University College London from 1983 to 1990 and Director of the Survey of English Usage, 1983–96. With Randolph Quirk and others, he wrote ''A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language'' (Longman 1985). He also wrote ''Oxford English Grammar'' (Oxford, 1996). Greenbaum studied at Jews' College, London, and was a qualified minister of religion although he never held a paid ministerial position. Joanne Greenbaum (born 1953) is an American artist, known for her abstract paintings and small sculptures. She is based in New York City, and has previously worked in Neukölln in Berlin. Early life and education Joanne Greenbaum was born in 1953, in New York City. Greenbaum received her BA degree in 1975 from Bard College, where she studied under the direction of Elizabeth Murray. Dorothea Schwarcz Greenbaum (1893–1986) was an American painter and sculptor. Biography She was born Dorothea Schwarcz to parents Emma and Maximilian Schwarcz in New York city on June 17, 1893. She studied at both the New York School of Fine and Applied Art and the Art Students League. In 1915, when Dorothea was 22, her father Maximilain drowned during the Sinking of the RMS Lusitania. As a young child, Greenbaum was chronically ill and could not attend traditional school. This lead her to enroll in Saturday art classes at the age of fifteen. She studied under the painter, Kenneth Hayes Miller. She discovered sculpting while recovering from an illness later in life, after she was given a piece of clay by a friend. Peter Allen Greenbaum (29 October 194625 July 2020), known professionally as Peter Green, was an English blues rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. As the founder of Fleetwood Mac, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Green founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967 after a stint in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and quickly established the new band as a popular live act in addition to a successful recording act, before departing in 1970.
