Greek National Road 95
National Road 95 is one of the main arteries on the island of Rhodes, Greece. It connects the Rhodes (city), city of Rhodes with the village of Lindos. History Current routing is fairly new as it was completed in 1974 replacing the old national road which was narrow and curvy. Until 1999 it was a single carriageway that, especially during summer time, made driving to the south east part of the island a bad experience. In 1999 the first part of the road from the city to Faliraki was expanded to a dual carriageway with 4 lanes and jersey barrier island. Nowadays (Jun18) further widening of the road from Faliraki to Kolympia is completed and in use. Route GR-95 is a 46 km north–south avenue connecting Rhodes City to Lindos. Its northern end is supposedly at the port of Rhodes City but in reality becomes an avenue at Exit 1/Rodini Junction. Rhodes
Rhodes (; el, Ρόδος , translit=Ródos ) is the largest and the historical capital of the Dodecanese islands of Greece. Administratively, the island forms a separate municipality within the Rhodes regional unit, which is part of the South Aegean administrative region. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Rhodes. The city of Rhodes had 50,636 inhabitants in 2011. In 2022 the island has population of 124,851 people. Kremasti
Kremasti ( el, Κρεμαστή) is a town on the Greek island of Rhodes (', ''Ródhos''). Located on the west coast of the island, Kremasti is 12 kilometers from the capital of Rhodes, on the road to the airport. It has a population of 5,363 people (2011 census) and was the administrative center of the former municipality of Petaloudes.http://www.rhodes.com/kremasti/ On a hill near the center of town are the ruins of a medieval castle. Charaki
Charaki ( el, Χαράκι) is a small fishing village on the east coast of the island of Rhodes, Greece. In addition to its fishing trade, Charaki is also a small holiday resort, with the usual tavernas, restaurants and bars. Charaki has a small, picturesque bay with a number of holiday apartments in addition to its tavernas. More recently, the land behind the bay has been host to a small number of housing developments. Charaki is only half an hour drive from Rhodes International Airport, and 10 minutes drive from the town of Lindos. On the acropolis overlooking Charaki is Feraclos Castle (aka Feraklos) (Greek Φεράκλος) - Feraclos was built by the Knights of St John, and was the last stronghold in Rhodes to succumb to the Ottoman Empire. Archangelos, Rhodes
Archangelos ( el, Αρχάγγελος) is a town and a former municipality on the island of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rhodes, of which it is a municipal unit. Location and population Archangelos is located about 30 kilometers south of the town of Rhodes on the island's east coast at an elevation of 160 meters. Its population according to the 2011 census was 5,384 making it the fifth largest town of the island (after the capital Rhodes, and the town of Trianta (Ialysos), Kremasti and Afantou. Afantou
Afantou ( el, Αφάντου) is a village and a former municipality on the island of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rhodes, of which it is a municipal unit. It is situated on the east coast of Rhodes just south of the resort town Faliraki. From a total population of 6,911 (2011 census) 6,072 reside in Afantou town. The only other settlements are the village of Archipoli (pop. 582) and the resort Kolympia (257). The municipal unit also hosts the only golf course of the island, the Afantou-Golf, which is next to one of the longest beaches on the island. The municipal unit has a land area of 46.100 km². Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras" (Greek: Διεθνής Αερολιμένας Ρόδου "Διαγόρας"), or Diagoras International Airport , is located on the West side of the island of Rhodes in Greece. The facility is located just north of the village Paradeisi, about 14 km southwest of the capital city, Rodos. Rhodes International Airport was the fourth busiest airport in Greece as of 2019, with 5,542,567 passengers utilizing the airport. History Civil aviation on Rhodes started after the Second World War, on the location of the nearby military Rhodes Maritsa Airport. This was the island's main airport until 1977, when the new Rhodes International Airport was opened.
