Gray is a surname that can come from a variety of origins but is typically found in Scotland, Ireland and England. In Ireland, the surname may have a Gaelic source from a phonetic transcription, or Anglicization of McGrath or McGraw. "Mac Giolla Riabhaigh" is sometimes Gray, but is also Anglicized to "McGreevy," "Gallery" and others. In most Scottish instances, the name "Gray" is from the Germanic Scots language, and is cognate with Old English, "græg", meaning "grey", probably as a hair colour. Also among Irish and Scottish Grays is the English name of Anglo-Norman origin. Aaron Gray
Aaron Michael Gray (born December 7, 1984) is an American former professional basketball player who played seven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A heart condition forced him into early retirement in 2015. High school career Gray played high school basketball at Emmaus High School in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. The school competes in Pennsylvania's highly competitive East Penn Conference. Gray did not start playing for the varsity team until the middle of his sophomore season. In Gray's senior season at Emmaus High School, he won the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year. Gray was recruited by major collegiate basketball programs, including the Penn State, Pitt, and Rutgers, and committed to Pitt. Andre Anthony Gray (born 26 June 1991) is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Super League Greece club Aris. Born in England, he represents the Jamaica national team. Alice Gray
Alice E. Gray (June 7, 1914 – April 27, 1994) was an American entomologist and origamist. She worked as an entomologist at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York for 43 years, writing, illustrating, and creating large models of insects. Known as the "Bug Lady", she conducted outreach and education in the museum, in local schools, and appeared on ''The Tonight Show''. She began practicing origami first as an extension of her interest in insects, starting a tradition of using origami creatures to decorate the museum's Christmas tree. In the 1960s, she became more involved with the origami community and, in 1978, co-founded the Friends of the Origami Center of America in New York with Lillian Oppenheimer and Michael Shall, now known as OrigamiUSA. Alasdair Gray
Alasdair James Gray (28 December 1934 – 29 December 2019) was a Scottish writer and artist. His first novel, ''Lanark'' (1981), is seen as a landmark of Scottish fiction. He published novels, short stories, plays, poetry and translations, and wrote on politics and the history of English and Scots literature. His works of fiction combine realism, fantasy, and science fiction with the use of his own typography and illustrations, and won several awards. He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1952 to 1957. As well as his book illustrations, he painted portraits and murals, including one at the Òran Mór venue and one at Hillhead subway station. Ahuva Gray (née Delores Gray) is a writer on religion and memoirist. She is a former Baptist minister who converted to Judaism and chronicled her changing beliefs in the book ''My Sister, the Jew'', published in 2001. Biography Gray is African-American and was born to a Baptist working-class family in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago. She is a relative of baseball player Lorenzo Gray. Gray worked for 23 years as a flight attendant, living in Los Angeles. She came a Baptist minister. She began to doubt Christianity when she found what she believed were discrepancies in the New Testament. Her discovery prompted a process of searching for a renewed faith. Eventually she found and studied Judaism; Gray believed that the Torah made the most sense.
