Gravel Grinder
Gravel cycling, gravel biking or gravel grinding is a sport, or a leisure activity, in which participants ride bicycles mostly on gravel roads. Sometimes, specially designed gravel bikes are used; in other cases, any bicycle capable of covering the terrain can be used. Gravel cycling bridges the gap between road and mountain biking, combining the higher speed and efficiency of road cycling with the capability and freedom to ride on rough and loose terrain. While a small number of road races embrace long stretches of unpaved and gravel roads, notable the prestigious Italian classic Strade Bianche, gravel racing as a discipline has its own global series and world championship. Unbound Gravel
Unbound Gravel, formerly known as the Dirty Kanza, is an event comprising gravel racing covering various distances held annually during the late spring in the Flint Hills region of the Great Plains around Emporia, Kansas, United States. The race's organizers refer to the mile race as the "World's Premiere Gravel Grinder", and ranked as one of the top gravel bike races. Winners are awarded a belt buckle. Course Starting and ending in Emporia, the routes runs along rural roads in the Flint Hills of east-central Kansas. In some years the temperature on the route has exceeded , while other years have seen rain or hail. It is not uncommon for rain to turn some dirt roads into "mud roads". There are checkpoints spaced about 50 miles apart for longer races, and riders must carry water and food, as well as fix their own tires and bikes. Barry County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 62,423. The county seat is Hastings. Barry-Roubaix
Barry-Roubaix is a classic-style road/off-road cycling race featuring a variety of terrain and surfaces to test cyclists of all skill levels. Named to the Global Cycling Network's ''Top Five Gravel Events'' and ''Nine Coolest Races of 2018'', the event is known as the World's Largest Gravel Road Race. The course is located in Barry County, Michigan near the Gun Lake Unit of Yankee Springs Recreation Area. Most years, Barry-Roubaix consists of rolling gravel roads (80%), pavement, one mile of rough two-track, rocks, sand, mud, and possibly snow and ice, along with 2200 feet of climbing. UCI Gravel World Championships
The UCI Gravel World Championships are the world championship events for gravel cycling in the disciplines of cross country. They are organized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the governing body of world cycling. The discipline covers the space between standard road cycling on paved and asphalted roads, and the all-terrain disciplines of mountain bike cross-country and cyclo-cross. The races share the length and tactical nature of road racing parcours, but embrace the unpredictability and technical skill of off-road cycling. The first three finishers in each discipline at the World Championships are awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals. Gravel is a loose aggregation of rock fragments. Gravel occurs naturally throughout the world as a result of sedimentary and erosive geologic processes; it is also produced in large quantities commercially as crushed stone. Gravel is classified by particle size range and includes size classes from granule- to boulder-sized fragments.
