Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville, (12 October 1773 – 8 January 1846), styled Lord Granville Leveson-Gower from 1786 to 1815 and The Viscount Granville from 1815 to 1833, was a British Whig statesman and diplomat from the Leveson-Gower family. Background and education Granville was the second son and youngest child of Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Marquess of Stafford from his marriage to Lady Susanna Stewart, daughter of Alexander Stewart, 6th Earl of Galloway. His elder, paternal half-brother was George Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland. Granville was educated at Dr. Kyle's school at Hammersmith, and then privately by John Chappel Woodhouse. Jake Granville (born 7 February 1989) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who primarily plays as a utility forward for the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League (NRL). William Anthony Granville
William Anthony Granville (December 16, 1863 – February 4, 1943) was an American mathematician, and served as president of Gettysburg College from 1910 until 1923. Overview Granville began his teaching career at Bethany College, where he was an instructor of mathematics and served as the college treasurer. In 1893 he was awarded a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Yale University. For fifteen years, beginning in 1895, he was professor of mathematics at Yale, and was awarded a Ph.D. in mathematics from that institution in 1897 under James Pierpont. His dissertation was titled, "Referat on the Origin and Development of the Addition-Theorem in Elliptic Functions". He published several textbooks on mathematics that were widely used throughout the United States. Sydney Granville (born Walter Dewhurst; 1880 – 27 December 1959) was an English singer and actor, best known for his performances in the Savoy Operas with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. After early theatrical work in musical comedy, straight plays and grand opera, he joined the D'Oyly Carte company, at first in the chorus, then in lyric baritone roles and finally in the comic bass-baritone parts of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas. Richard Granville
Richard St Leger Granville (24 April 1907 – 8 August 1972) was an English cricketer. Granville was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Kings Worthy, Hampshire. Granville made a single first-class appearance for Warwickshire against Leicestershire at Edgbaston in the 1934 County Championship. Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat, making 163 all out in their first-innings, with Granville who batted at number seven scoring 2 runs before he was dismissed by Ewart Astill. Leicestershire responded in their first-innings with 125 all out, to which Warwickshire responded in their second-innings with 148 all out, with Granville making 7 runs before he was dismissed by Astill once more. Warwickshire went on to win the match by 78 runs. This was his only major appearance for Warwickshire. He died at Banbury, Oxfordshire, on 8 August 1972. Michael Granville (born February 14, 1978) is a retired American 800 metres runner. He is known for being the National High School record holder in the race. Running for Bell Gardens High School he set the record of 1:46.45 in the trial round of the 1996 CIF California State Meet at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California. He went on to win the state meet the following day, but after setting the record he claims he just "dogged it." He had won the race two years earlier and was upset into second by Aaron Richburg, in a major surprise the year before. Granville also held the indoor 800 metres record (broken by Josh Hoey in 2018) and set the class record at 800 metres at all four levels of high school; 1:51.03 as a freshman, 1:48.98 as a sophomore and 1:47.96 as a junior. Laura Granville (born May 12, 1981) is a former American professional tennis player. During the two years she spent at Stanford University, she set the record for most consecutive singles victories with 58 and finished with an overall record of 93–3. Granville won the NCAA Championship in singles as well as the ITA Player of the Year in both 2000 and 2001. In 2001, Stanford won the women's tennis national team championship, and Granville was also a doubles finalist. She retired in 2010 after seven full years on the WTA Tour and returned to Stanford, where she completed her studies and graduated in 2012. He is most famous for inventing and developing the concept of "On-balance volume (OBV)". John M. Granville (September 25, 1974 – January 1, 2008) was an American diplomat who worked in South Sudan. On January 1, 2008, he was assassinated in a shooting in Khartoum, Sudan. Career Granville grew up in Buffalo, New York. He was a graduate of Canisius High School in 1993 and of Fordham University. In 2003, he graduated from Clark University with a Master of Arts degree in International Development and Social Change. He studied as a Fulbright Fellow in Africa.
