Grant Lawrie
Grant Lawrie (born 29 November 1958) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy and St Kilda in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Lawrie, who came from Bulleen-Templestowe, started his VFL career as a half forward flanker and on one occasion kicked four goals against Collingwood in his debut season. After putting together 14 appearances in his first three years at the club, Lawrie became an integral part of the team from 1981 as a hard running defender. He played all 22 games in 1982 and polled 10 Brownlow Medal votes to finish at Fitzroy's second best vote getter that year. The following season he was selected to represent Victoria at interstate football. Nicknamed "Sticks", Lawrie played seven finals during his time with Fitzroy but missed the 1986 preliminary final. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. West Preston Lakeside Football Club is an Australian rules football club in Reservoir, Victoria, currently competing in the Northern Football League. History The West Preston F.C. was formed in 1948 in the CYMS competition. It remained there until 1963, when it joined the very strong church based YCW National Football Association. The club had a reasonable amount of success and it was decided that it should field junior sides as well and from those early days more than 10 players from those sides went on to join the ranks of the then VFL. The club had continued to grow which led the club to apply for membership in the Diamond Valley Football League in 1981. The Western Jets is an Australian rules football club which plays in the Victorian premier U19 competition, the NAB League, since its inception in 1992. The club have developmental squads in the U16, however much of the attention is towards its U18 team. The club is geographically set in Melbourne's West as part of a decision by AFL Victoria (formerly Football Victoria) to have clubs in all regions of the state. The club trains in Melbourne's inner west at Crofts Reserve in Altona North and plays NAB League matches at Burbank Oval in Williamstown. History The Greensborough Football Club was founded in 1893 playing its first game against Diamond Creek. In 1922 the club became affiliated with the Diamond Valley Football League (DVFL) and were premiers in their inaugural year. Greensborough were 1 of 6 original teams in the DVFL. 1989 VFL Draft
The 1989 VFL draft was the fourth annual national draft held by the Victorian Football League (since changed its name to Australian Football League) as the main method for the 14 teams to recruit players for the 1990 season. It consisted of a trading period, pre-draft selections, the main national draft and the 1990 pre-season draft and a non-compulsory 1990 mid-year draft. The minimum age for most draftees was 16 and clubs other than the West Coast Eagles were only allowed to choose one player each from Western Australia. For the non-Queensland and NSW clubs, players from those states had to be 19 to be selected, by which time the Brisbane Bears or Sydney Swans would have had three chances to recruit them.
