Grant County Courthouse (Wisconsin)
The Grant County Courthouse, built in 1902, is an historic glass-and-copper-domed county courthouse building located at 126 West Main Street in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Designed by Armand D. Koch in the Classical Revival architecture, Classical Revival style, it was built of red sandstone. Murals decorating the four spandrels under the dome were done by Franz E. Lancaster, Wisconsin
Lancaster is a city in and the county seat of Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,907 at the 2020 census. History Lancaster originated as a planned community to serve as the county seat for Grant County. Anticipating the county's establishment in 1836, Major Glendower M. Price, a Cassville merchant and land speculator, purchased the site of Lancaster for its central location in the county. Major Price platted the town on a compass-aligned grid in 1837, reserving a large central square for the new county government. He was persuaded to name the city Lancaster by a relative who migrated from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Maj. Price and Daniel Banfill contracted to construct the first county courthouse, which stood on the square from 1838-1851. A second courthouse was constructed in 1852-1853 and enlarged in 1865. The Martin County Courthouse is the county courthouse for Martin County, Minnesota, Martin County, Minnesota. The building is located at 201 Lake Avenue on the western side of the city of Fairmont, Minnesota, Fairmont, on a hill overlooking Lake Sisseton. It is a Beaux Arts architecture, Beaux Arts building featuring a high copper dome with four clock faces. The first floor was made out of Michigan sandstone. The second and third stories are built of Indiana Limestone, Bedford limestone. The arched entrance is flanked by polished double Corinthian order columns and topped by a pediment. The Green County Courthouse, located on Courthouse Square in Monroe, is the county courthouse serving Green County, Wisconsin. Built in 1891, it is the county's second permanent courthouse. Architect G. Stanley Mansfield designed the Richardsonian Romanesque building. The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
