Grant Burgess
Grant Burgess (born 1960) is a male English international lawn bowler. Bowls career Burgess came to prominence in 1987 when he won his first National title. He was bowling for the Worcester County Ground Bowls Club and the triples team of Burgess, Mark Weaver and John Weaver won gold. His most successful year was in 1998, bowling for the Gilt Edge Bowls Club of Worcestershire he won the prestigious singles title at the National Championships. Kidderminster
Kidderminster is a large market and historic minster town and civil parish in Worcestershire, England, south-west of Birmingham and north of Worcester. Located north of the River Stour and east of the River Severn, in the 2011 census, it had a population of 55,530. The town is twinned with Husum, Germany. The 1998 Commonwealth Games ''(Malay: Sukan Komanwel 1998)'', officially known as the XVI Commonwealth Games ''(Malay: Sukan Komanwel ke-16)'', was a multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This edition is marked by several unprecedented facts in the history of the event. The 1998 games were the first held in an Asian country and the last Commonwealth Games of the 20th century. This was also the first time the games took place in a nation with a head of state other than the Head of the Commonwealth, and the first time the games were held in a country whose majority of the population did not have English as the first language. Andrew Edward Thomson Order of the British Empire, MBE is a former international lawn and indoor bowler. Known as Andy Thomson he was born in Fife, Scotland, on 26 November 1955, and represented Scotland before deciding to represent England. Bowls career Thomson won the Buckhaven Club Championship at the age of 16 and one year later was the Fife under-30 champion. In 1978 he won the Scottish junior indoor title. After moving to Kent he claimed the List of Bowls England champions, 1981 EBA national singles. He represented England at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, England in the singles, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Eight years later he partnered Gary Smith (bowls), Gary Smith in the pairs and they won a bronze medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. John Nicholson Bell (born 14 January 1947) is a former English lawn and indoor bowler, commentator and World Bowls President. Bowls career World Championships Bell won his first gold medal as part of the England team that won the team event (Leonard Cup) at the 1980 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Melbourne. Four years later he won another gold at the World Bowls Events, 1984 World Outdoor Bowls Championships. Worcestershire
Worcestershire ( , ; written abbreviation: Worcs) is a county in the West Midlands of England. The area that is now Worcestershire was absorbed into the unified Kingdom of England in 927, at which time it was constituted as a county (see History of Worcestershire). Over the centuries the county borders have been modified, but it was not until 1844 that substantial changes were made.
