Grand National Archery Society
Archery GB is the largest national governing body for the sport of archery in the United Kingdom. Archery GB is responsible for all levels of archery within the UK from elite to development level and supports over 40,000 members. Archery GB is the umbrella organisation for English Archery Association, Archery Northern Ireland, Scottish Archery and Welsh Archery Association. Under Archery GB are eight Regional Societies and many different county societies. It is affiliated to the World Archery Federation (WA); (formerly FITA, the ''Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc'') and is a member of the British Olympic Association. The Woodmen of the Ancient Forest of Arden are an exclusive society of English longbow, longbow shooting toxophilites, founded (or possibly re-founded) in 1758 in the village of Meriden, West Midlands, Meriden, in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, Borough of Solihull, in the ancient Arden, Warwickshire, Forest of Arden. The Britannia Adelphi Hotel is in Ranelagh Place, Liverpool city centre, Merseyside, England. The present building is the third hotel on the site, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. ''Archery UK'' is a magazine devoted to the sport of archery in the United Kingdom. It is the official journal of Archery GB, which has more than 40,000 members. The headquarters is in Hatfield, Herts. History and profile The magazine was first published in 1997. The first colour issue was produced in summer 2005. Since then there have been a number of redesigns and the pagination has grown from 40 to 84. The magazine is published by the Archery GB, based at the Lilleshall National Sports and Conferencing Centre, Shropshire. The magazine is published quarterly and is part of the membership package. World Archery Federation
The World Archery Federation (WA, also and formerly known as FITA from the French ''Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc'') is the governing body of the sport of archery. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is composed of 156 national federations and other archery associations, and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee. History FITA was founded on 4 September 1931 in Lwow, Poland (today Lviv, Ukraine). Its seven founding member states were France, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Poland, the United States, Hungary, and Italy. The aim of the organization was to create regular archery championships, and to return archery to the Olympic Games (the sport had not been featured since 1920). FITA was finally successful in returning archery to the Olympic program in the 1972 Summer Olympics.
