Grand Mosque Of Bucharest
The Grand Mosque of Bucharest ( ro, Marea Moschee din București) was a proposed mosque to be built in Bucharest, Romania, using funds provided by Turkey and land gifted by the Romanian Government. The building of the mosque was negotiated with the Turkish Government by Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta in 2015 and discussions continued under Romanian President Klaus Iohannis. In 2018, the project was abandoned due to the lack of funds. Negotiations with Turkey The discussions between Romania and Turkey about the construction of a mosque in Bucharest were stalled for 14 years because the Romanian Government demanded that the Romanian Orthodox Church also be allowed to build a church in Istanbul, something which the Turkish Government refused. Bucharest ( , ; ro, București ) is the capital and largest city of Romania, as well as its cultural, industrial, and financial centre. Traian Băsescu
Traian Băsescu (; born 4 November 1951) is a conservatism, conservative Romanian politician who served as President of Romania from 2004 to 2014. Prior to his presidency, Băsescu served as Romanian Minister of Transport on multiple occasions between 1991 and 2000, and as Mayor of Bucharest from 2000 to 2004. Additionally, he was elected as leader of the Democratic Party (Romania), Democratic Party (PD) in 2001. The Turks of Romania ( tr, Romanya Türkleri, ro, Turcii din România) are ethnic Turks who form an ethnic minority in Romania. According to the 2011 census, there were 27,698 Turks living in the country, forming a minority of some 0.15% of the population. Islam In Romania
Islam in Romania is followed by only 0.3 percent of population, but has 700 years of tradition in Northern Dobruja, a region on the Black Sea coast which was part of the Ottoman Empire for almost five centuries (ca. 1420-1878). In present-day Romania, most adherents to Islam belong to the Tatar and Turkish ethnic communities and follow the Sunni doctrine. Nicușor Dan
Nicușor Dan (born 20 December 1969) is a Romanian activist, mathematician, former member of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania as well as former founder and leader of the centre-right Romanian political party Save Romania Union (USR). The National Liberal Party ( ro, Partidul Național Liberal, PNL) is a liberal-conservative political party in Romania (and the second largest overall political party in the country as of 2022). Ludovic Orban (; born 25 May 1963) is a Romanian engineer and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Romania from November 2019 to December 2020. The Mayor of Bucharest ( ro, Primarul General al Municipiului București), sometimes known as the General Mayor, is the head of the Bucharest City Hall in Bucharest, Romania, which is responsible for citywide affairs, such as the water system, the transport system and the main boulevards.
