Gradski Stadion Velika Gorica (), also known as Gradski stadion Velika Gorica or Stadion ŠRC Velika Gorica, is an association football stadium in Velika Gorica, Croatia. It is the home stadium for the HNK Gorica football club. The stadium has a capacity of 4,536, all of which is seated. The stadium was built for the 1987 Summer Universiade, held in the nearby Croatian capital Zagreb. Velika Gorica (; meaning "Great Vineyard/Forest") is the largest and most populous city in Zagreb County, Croatia. According to the 2011 census the city itself has a population of 31,341, while the municipality has a population of 63,517 inhabitants. Velika Gorica is the centre of the historical Turopolje region. Franjo Tuđman Airport, the largest and busiest airport in Croatia, is located in the area of Velika Gorica. Name The name of the city consists of two words. The first one, "Velika", is an adjective, meaning ''big'' or ''great''. Second one is "Gorica", which is in standard Croatian diminutive of the word "gora", meaning ''hill''. NK Radnik
NK Radnik was a Croatian football club based in the town of Velika Gorica in Zagreb County. Founded in 1945, it spent its entire history in lower levels, before briefly appearing in the Croatian First Football League, the nation's top flight, between 1992 and 1994. In the summer of 2009, the club was disbanded and merged with another local club, NK Polet Buševec, to form HNK Gorica. Hrvatski nogometni klub Gorica ( en, Croatian Football Club Gorica), commonly referred to as HNK Gorica or simply Gorica, is a Croatian football club based in the town of Velika Gorica, located just south of the Croatian capital Zagreb. They play their home matches at the Gradski stadion Velika Gorica, which has a capacity of 5,200. They won the 2010–11 Croatian Second Football League title and were initially promoted to Croatian First Football League, but their top license was revoked. 1987 Summer Universiade
The 1987 Summer Universiade, also known as the XIV Summer Universiade, took place in Zagreb, SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia. It involved participants from 111 countries and over 6,000 individual sportspersons and members of teams. Infrastructural changes The city of Zagreb used the event to renovate and revitalize the city. The city's main square (Republic Square) was repaved with stone blocks and made part of the downtown pedestrian zone. A part of the Medveščak stream, which had been running under the sewers since 1898, was uncovered by workers. This part formed the Manduševac fountain that was also covered in 1898.
