Grabs is a municipality in the ''Wahlkreis'' (constituency) of Werdenberg in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. History Grabs is first mentioned in 841 as ''Quaravedes''. In 979 it was mentioned as ''Quadravedes'', then in 1235 as ''Grabdis'' and in 1253 as ''Graps''. Geography Grabs has an area, , of . Of this area, 50% is used for agricultural purposes, while 32.2% is forested. Grab (ship)
A grab was a type of ship common on the Malabar Coast in the 18th and 19th centuries. The name derives from ''"ghurāb"'' or ''"ghorāb"'', Arabic for raven, which in turn came into Marathi and Konkani as ''"gurab"''. The ''ghurāb'' was originally a galley, but the type evolved. The grab combined an indigenous hull form with a pointed prow, with or without a bowsprit, combined with European rigging on two to three masts. A description from 1750 states that the grabs of Angria's fleet narrowed from the middle forward and instead of a bow had the prow of a Mediterranean galley, covered with a strong deck level with the main deck but separated from it by a bulkhead. The grab pitched violently when sailing against a head sea so the prow sides were open to permit water easily to run off. Galactic Radiation and Background (GRAB) was the first successful United States orbital surveillance program, comprising a series of five Naval Research Laboratory electronic surveillance and solar astronomy satellites, launched from 1960 to 1962. Though only two of the five satellites made it into orbit, they returned a wealth of information on Soviet air defense radar capabilities as well as useful astronomical observations of the Sun. Development In 1957, the Soviet Union began deploying the S-75 Dvina surface-to-air missile, controlled by Fan Song fire control radars. This development made penetration of Soviet air space by American bombers more dangerous. Detlev Grabs (born 29 October 1960) is a German researcher in anatomy and cell biology and a retired East German swimmer. He competed at the 1980 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay; he failed to reach the finals in the 200 m and 400 m freestyle events. He was also part of the East German team that finished third in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay at the 1977 European Aquatics Championships. After retiring from swimming, between 1984 and 1990 he studied human medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin, defending his PhD in 1990. Then until 1997 he worked as a post-doc at the Institute of Anatomy, Berlin (1990–1997); University of Ulm, Germany (1992); and Yale University, United States (1994–1996). In 1999 he obtained his habilitation degree in anatomy and cell biology from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, where he worked between 1997 and 2007.
