Goyescas (horse)
''Goyescas'', Op. 11, subtitled ''Los majos enamorados'' (''The Gallants in Love''), is a piano suite written in 1911 by Spanish composer Enrique Granados. It was inspired by the work of the Spanish artist Francisco Goya. The piano pieces have not been authoritatively associated with any particular paintings with two exceptions: *''El amor y la muerte'' (Love and death) shares its title with one of Goya's prints from the series called ''Los caprichos'' *''El pelele'' (The straw man) is one of Goya's tapestry cartoons This piano suite is usually considered Granados's crowning creation. Opus Number
In musicology, the opus number is the "work number" that is assigned to a musical composition, or to a set of compositions, to indicate the chronological order of the composer's production. Opus numbers are used to distinguish among compositions with similar titles; the word is abbreviated as "Op." for a single work, or "Opp." when referring to more than one work. United States Marine Band
The United States Marine Band is the premier band of the United States Marine Corps. Established by act of Congress on July 11, 1798, it is the oldest of the United States military bands and the oldest professional musical organization in the United States. Today, the Marine Band includes the Marine Chamber Orchestra and Marine Chamber Ensembles. The Marine Band is entirely separate from its sister military band, the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps ("The Commandant's Own") and the 10 active duty Marine Corps field bands. Luis Fernando Pérez (Madrid, Spain; 1977) is a Spanish classical pianist. He first studied piano at Pozuelo de Alarcón conservatoire where he received top grades. In 1993 he entered the Reina Sofía School of Music where he studied with renowned Dmitri Bashkirov, Galina Eguiazarova and chamber music with Márta Gulyás. Kun-Woo Paik
Kun-woo Paik (born March 10, 1946 in Seoul) is a South Korean pianist. He has performed with multiple orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic. Early life Kun-Woo Paik was born in Seoul. He gave his first concert, aged 10, with the Korean National Orchestra, playing Grieg's Piano Concerto. In the following years, he performed many important works in Korea, including several local premieres such as Mussorgsky's ''Pictures at an Exhibition''. Later he studied in New York (Juilliard School), London, and Italy with Rosina Lhévinne, Ilona Kabos, Guido Agosti and Wilhelm Kempff. Garrick Ohlsson
Garrick Olof Ohlsson (born April 3, 1948) is an American classical pianist. He is the only American to have won first prize in the International Chopin Piano Competition, at the VIII competition in 1970. He also won first prize at the Busoni Competition in Italy and the Montreal Piano Competition in Canada. He was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1994 and received the 1998 University Musical Society Distinguished Artist Award in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ohlsson has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning one in 2008. Thomas Rajna
Thomas Rajna (21 December 1928 – 16 July 2021) was a British pianist and composer of Hungarian birth. He had been domiciled in Cape Town in South Africa since 1970. Biography Rajna was born in Budapest, Hungary. He started to play the piano and compose at an early age and studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music where he won the Liszt Prize in 1947. That year he left Hungary to settle in London and enrolled at the Royal College of Music. He soon appeared at the Proms under such conductors as Carlo Maria Giulini, Colin Davis and John Pritchard, also becoming a frequent broadcaster at the BBC. Douglas Riva is an American classical pianist. Biography and career Douglas Riva began studying piano and flute at age nine. At age sixteen, he began his professional career as a flautist, being principal flautist of the El Paso Symphony. Later turning exclusively to the piano, Riva studied at the Juilliard School and New York University, studying with Adele Marcus and Eugene List. Receiving a grant from the Beebe Fund, Riva went to Barcelona in 1980, where he studied at the Academia Marshall, founded by Enrique Granados. Alicia de Larrocha y de la Calle (23 May 192325 September 2009) was a Spanish pianist and composer. She was considered one of the great piano legends of the 20th century.
