Goychay Pomegranate Festival
The Goychay Pomegranate Festival ( az, Göyçay nar festivalı) is an annual cultural festival that is held in Goychay, Azerbaijan. The festival features Azerbaijani fruit-cuisine mainly the pomegranates from Goychay. At the festival, a cultural parade is held with dances and music. In 2020, the Goychay Pomegranate Festival was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO. Concept The festival features a fair and an exhibition that displays different local varieties of pomegranates as well as various pomegranate products produced by local enterprises. During the festival, music and dance performances are presented each year. The festival also includes athletic performances and various craftsmen, potters, millers, blacksmiths, artists, performances of folklore groups and paintings. Goychay District
Goychay District ( az, Göyçay rayonu) is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the centre of the country and belongs to the Central Aran Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Agdash, Qabala, Ismayilli, Kurdamir, and Ujar. Its capital and largest city is Goychay. As of 2020, the district had a population of 121,700. Goychay ( az, Göyçay, russian: Геокчай) is a city, municipality and the capital of the Goychay District of Azerbaijan. The municipality includes the city of Goychay and the nearby village of Qızılqaya. As of December 2016 the urban population of Goychay was estimated at 42,500, an increase of around 20% since 2004 when the population was recorded as being 35,344. Lavash ( hy, լավաշ) is a thin flatbread usually leavened, traditionally baked in a tandoor (''tonir'') or on a ''sajj'', and common to the cuisines of South Caucasus, Western Asia, and the areas surrounding the Caspian Sea. Lavash is one of the most widespread types of bread in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey.
