The Goya Award for Best Animated Film (Spanish: ''Premio Goya a la mejor película animada'') is one of the Goya Awards, Spain's principal national film awards. The category was first presented at the fourth edition of the Goya Awards with the film ''Town Musicians of Bremen'' being the first winner of the award. The category was not presented from 1990 to 1993 and 1995 to 1996. Significance The films ''Chico and Rita'' (2010) and ''Klaus'' (2019) were also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature with the latter winning the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film. The Goya Awards ( es, Premios Goya) are Spain's main national annual film awards, commonly referred to as the Academy Awards of Spain. The awards were established in 1987, a year after the founding of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, and the first awards ceremony took place on March 16, 1987 at the Teatro Lope de Vega, Madrid. The ceremony continues to take place annually at Centro de Congresos Príncipe Felipe, around the end of January/beginning of February, and awards are given to films produced during the previous year. The award itself is a small bronze bust of Francisco Goya created by the sculptor José Luis Fernández, although the original sculpture for the first edition of the Goyas was by Miguel Ortiz Berrocal. Maite Ruiz de Austri (born 1959) is a Spanish writer, screenwriter, and film and television director, specializing in programs for children and young adults. ''Los Trotamúsicos'' is a Spanish animated television series, based on the ''Town Musicians of Bremen'' by the Brothers Grimm, produced by Estudios Cruz Delgado for Televisión Española and first broadcast on October 1, 1989. It ended on March 25, 1990. The series follows the story of four animal friends, a rooster, a donkey, a dog and a cat, who form a band playing respectively guitar, drums, trumpet and saxophone.
