Barbara Gowdy
Barbara Gowdy, CM (born 25 June 1950) is a Canadian novelist and short story writer. Born in Windsor, Ontario, she is the long-time partner of poet Christopher Dewdney and resides in Toronto. Literary career Gowdy's novel '' Falling Angels'' (1989) was made into a film of the same name by director Scott Smith, from an adaptation written by Esta Spalding, in 2002. The comically dark novel focuses on a nuclear family in a 1960s Ontario suburb. The main characters are three sisters who come of age in a house run by their abusive and womanizing father and must constantly find ways to take care of their depressed and alcoholic mother. Gowdy says her inspiration for the book was the idea of a Canadian family living during the Cold War and practicing using their bomb shelter in the back yard. Bruce Gowdy is an American guitarist, best known for his work with World Trade, and Unruly Child. Biography Gowdy was a founding member of World Trade with Billy Sherwood and Guy Allison. He later formed Unruly Child with Allison. He was also a member of Stone Fury and has worked with musician Mercedes. He also produced Glenn Hughes' ''From Now On...'' album from 1994. He toured with the Japanese rock star Eikichi Yazawa for over a decade. Cornell Anthony Gowdy (born October 2, 1963) is a former American football safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers. He played college football at Morgan State University. Early years Gowdy attended Central High School. He accepted a football scholarship from Morgan State University. He played as a linebacker, safety and cornerback. As a junior, he led the team in tackles. Curtis Edward Gowdy (July 31, 1919 – February 20, 2006) was an American sportscaster. He called Boston Red Sox games on radio and TV for 15 years, and then covered many nationally televised sporting events, primarily for NBC Sports and ABC Sports in the 1960s and 1970s. He coined the nickname "The Granddaddy of Them All" for the Rose Bowl Game, taking the moniker from the Cheyenne Frontier Days in his native Wyoming. Joe Gowdy
Joseph Gowdy (born 7 December 1897) was a footballer from Northern Ireland who played as a right half, although in his early career he was a centre forward and in latter years was deployed at centre half. He came to prominence after World War I as a goalscorer with Glentoran in his native Belfast, and from there moved to Scotland with Falkirk in November 1920; however, he failed to lead the attack as had been hoped, with the club bringing in Englishman Syd Puddefoot for a record fee in 1922. Gowdy is said to have then returned to Ireland without informing Falkirk, intending to play for Glentoran again while the Scottish club tried to have him return to them without success. It was agreed that he would instead play on loan with Queen's Island in Belfast. The move worked out well for player and club as Queen's Island won the double of Irish Football League and Irish Cup in the 1923–24 season. He attended Santa Barbara High School in Santa Barbara, California and was considered a top prospect for the 2016 MLB draft.
