Govert-Marinus Augustijn
Govert-Marinus Augustijn (Bergen op Zoom, 27 October 1871 – Hilversum, 26 May 1963) was a Dutch potter in the style of the Art Nouveau. at the Netherlands Institute for Art History. He was the son of pottery manufacturer Govert Johannes Augustijn and Maria van Dijke. ''Jardinière'' is a French word, from the feminine form of "gardener". In English it means a decorative flower box or "planter", a receptacle (usually a ceramic pot or urn) or a stand upon which, or into which, plants (often in pots) may be placed, usually indoors. The French themselves mostly refer to tabletop "planter" versions of such receptacles as ''cachepots'' ("hide-pots"). The French tend to use ''jardinière'' for larger outdoor containers for plants, and for raised beds in gardens in some sort of isolated frame, such as a stone wall, especially growing vegetables and herbs. In the sense in English jardinières, often without the accent, are most often made in pottery, but may be in metal, glass, plastic or wood. They may be supplied with liners. In cookery, another French meaning, a dish that is cooked or served with a mixture of spring vegetables, such as peas, carrots, and green beans, is also used. Art Nouveau
Art Nouveau (; ) is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts. The style is known by different names in different languages: in German, in Italian, in Catalan, and also known as the Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style), Modern Style in English. It was popular between 1890 and 1910 during the Belle Époque period, and was a reaction against the academic art, eclecticism and historicism of 19th century architecture and decoration. It was often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers. Bergen Op Zoom
Bergen op Zoom (; called ''Berrege'' in the local dialect) is a municipality and a city located in the south of the Netherlands. Etymology The city was built on a place where two types of soil meet: sandy soil and marine clay. The sandy soil pushed against the marine clay, accumulating and forming hills over several centuries. People called those hills the ''Brabantse Wal'', literally meaning "ramparts of Brabant". ''Zoom'' refers to the border of these ramparts and ''bergen'' in Dutch means mountains or hills. The name has nothing to do with the little channel, the ‘Zoom’, which was later built through Bergen op Zoom. History Bergen op Zoom was granted city status probably in 1212. Gabriel Van Dievoet
Gabriel Van Dievoet (, 12 April 1875 – 17 November 1934) was a Belgian decorator and Liberty style sgraffitist. He was the brother of the architect Henri Van Dievoet. He was the son of Leon Van Dievoet, ship-owner and maritime-agent, and of Hermine Straatman; and the grandson of Eugene van Dievoet and Hortense Poelaert (sister of the famous architect Joseph Poelaert). Studies and early career After studying at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels at the same time as Paul Cauchie, he opened his decorative arts workshop and started collaborating with many Art Nouveau or Late Eclectic architects, such as Victor Boelens, De Kock, Georges Delcoigne, Edouard Elle, Guillaume Low, Georges Peereboom, Edouard Pelseneer, Albert Roosenboom, Fernand Symons, Joseph Van Neck, Armand Van Waesberghe and his own brother, Henri Van Dievoet. Henri van Dievoet (, 19 January 1869 – 24 April 1931) was a Belgian architect. Biography Early life Van Dievoet was born into an old family of Brussels descended from the Sweerts lineage, one of the Seven Noble Houses of Brussels, which had already shone in the fine arts at the time of Louis XIV. His great-grand-uncles were the goldsmith Philippe Van Dievoet and the sculptor Peter Van Dievoet, one of the creators of the Grand-Place of Brussels. Joseph Poelaert was his great-uncle.
