The governor of Vladimir Oblast (russian: Губернатор Владимирской области) is the highest official of Vladimir Oblast, a region in Central Russia. He heads the supreme executive body of the region — the Administration of Vladimir Oblast. History of office At the initial stage of post-Soviet history of Russia, it was assumed that the elections of regional leaders would be introduced in all regions. In August 1991, Russian President Boris Yeltsin promised an early elections. For the transition period, a new institution was created — the Head of Administration, head of the regional administration appointed by the president. Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Avdeyev (russian: Александр Александрович Авдеев; born 12 August 1975), is a Russian statesman and politician, who is currently the 5th Governor of Vladimir Oblast since 16 September 2022. He had previously served as a deputy of the State Duma of the VII convocation from 2016 to 2021, and as the Deputy Governor of Kaluga Oblast, and member of the Government of Kaluga Oblast from 2015 to 2016. He was Mayor of Obninsk from 2010 to 2015. He is a member of the United Russia party. Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Canada imposed sanctions on Avdeev in August 2022. Svetlana Yuryevna Orlova (russian: Светлана Юрьевна Орлова; born 23 October 1954), is a Russian politician, who is currently the auditor of the Accounts Chamber of Russia since 23 November 2018. She served as the Governor of Vladimir Oblast from 2013 to 2018. She is known for losing in the second round of the governor's elections in 2018, losing 37.46% and 57.03%, respectively, to the candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Vladimir Sipyagin. In the past, she was the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council from 2004 to 2013, and a member of the State Duma of the 1st and 2nd convocations from 1993 to 2000. From 2012 to 2018, she was a member of the Bureau of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party. 2022 Vladimir Oblast Gubernatorial Election
The 2022 Vladimir Oblast gubernatorial election took place on 9–11 September 2022, on common election day. Acting Governor Aleksandr Avdeyev was elected to a full term. Background Vladimir Sipyagin was unexpectedly elected Governor of Vladimir Oblast in September 2018, defeating one-term incumbent Svetlana Orlova by a margin of nearly 20 points in the run-off. Sipyagin became the first LDPR governor in Vladimir Oblast's history. Due to Sipyagin's surprising win, he was considered a "fluke winner", his term as governor was marked by poor governance and constant attacks from other political forces.
