Surigao del Sur (Surigaonon language, Surigaonon: ''Probinsya nan Surigao del Sur''; ceb, Habagatang Surigao; tl, Timog Surigao), officially the Province of Surigao del Sur, is a Provinces of the Philippines, province in the Philippines located in the Caraga Regions of the Philippines, region in Mindanao. Its capital is Tandag City. Surigao del Sur is situated at the eastern coast of Mindanao and faces the Philippine Sea to the east. Etymology There are two hypotheses on the original meaning of "Surigao" among linguists, depending on the original root word. If the root word was taken to be ''sulig'' ("sprout" or "spring up"), then Surigao may have derived from ("spring water"), likely referring to the Surigao River (known as "Suligaw" in Mandaya language, Mandaya) that empties at the northern tip of the island of Mindanao. Alexander "Ayec" Pimentel is a Filipino politician from the province of Surigao del Sur in the Philippines. He currently serves as a Governor of Surigao del Sur. He was first elected as Governor of the province in 2019. He was also the Mayor of Tandag of the same province from 2004 to 2013 and from 2016 to 2019. Johnny Pimentel
Johnny Ty Pimentel (born March 29, 1956) is a Filipino politician who is currently serving in the House of Representatives of the Philippines as the representative of Surigao del Sur's 2nd district. He previously served as a deputy speaker of the House from 2019 to 2020. He also served as vice governor of Surigao del Sur from 1995 to 1998 and later governor from 2010 to 2016. Early life and education Pimentel was born on March 29, 1956 in Tandag, Surigao to Vicente Pimentel Sr., the first governor of the undivided Surigao, and Felicidad Ty.
