Gov. Samuel Ashe Grave is a historic grave site located near Rocky Point, North Carolina. The grave is located in the Ashe family cemetery. It is the grave of Governor Samuel Ashe (1725–1813) and is marked by an eight-foot by four-foot granite slab installed in 1967. Rocky Point is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in southern Pender County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rocky Point is situated on North Carolina Highway 210, North Carolina Highway 133 and U.S. Route 117, at an elevation of 39 feet (12 m). The ZIP Code for Rocky Point is 28457. Overview Rocky Point is located at exit 408 off of Interstate 40. Rocky Point is just a two-stop-light town (three, counting the one off I-40). The community is growing fairly rapidly. Land taxes are low, and the community is served by the Rocky Point Fire Department, Pender EMS and Fire, and the Pender County Sheriff's Office. Samuel Ashe (North Carolina Governor)
Samuel Ashe (March 24, 1725February 3, 1813) was the ninth List of governors of North Carolina, governor of the U.S. state of North Carolina from 1795 to 1798. He was also one of the first three judges of the North Carolina Superior Court in 1787. Life story Ashe was born in Beaufort, North Carolina, Beaufort in the Province of North Carolina. His father, John Baptista Ashe, and brother, John Ashe (general), John Ashe, both served as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Speaker of the North Carolina Assembly, or House of Burgesses. Ashe became an orphan at the age of nine. He married Mary Porter in 1748; they had three children, including John Baptista Ashe (delegate), John Baptista Ashe, who would serve in the Continental Congress. After Mary died, Ashe remarried, this time to the former Elizabeth Merrik.
