Gottfried Glöckner
Gottfried Glöckner (born 24 June 1937) is a German composer, choral conductor and music educator. Life Born in Chemnitz, Glöckner attended the Zwickau Conservatory. Afterwards he worked as a music teacher in Bad Liebenwerda and Frankfurt (Oder). From 1970 to 1974 he studied composition with Manfred Weiss at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. He worked as a freelance composer and choral conductor in Frankfurt (Oder). Glöckner's compositions were published by bellmannmusik, Edition Choris Mundi and . His Concerto for Orchestra was first performed in Havana in 1984. He was married to the writer Helga Glöckner-Neubert until her death in 2017. The Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber (Carl Maria von Weber College of Music; also/formerly known as Dresden Conservatory or Dresden Royal Conservatory) is a university of music in Dresden, Germany. History The Hochschule opened on 1 February 1856 and is one of the oldest German conservatoires. Francesco Morlacchi, Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Wagner made reference to the necessity of establishing institutional training for musicians in Dresden. On 1 February 1856, a violinist of the Royal Orchestra, Friedrich Tröstler, founded the first music school in Dresden. In 1881 the title "royal" was granted, and it changed its name to "Royal Conservatoire", although it was a private institution. Helga Glöckner-Neubert (5 September 1938 – 27 August 2017) was a German writer. Life Born in , Glöckner-Neubert completed her education at the librarian school of the Karl-Marx-University Leipzig. She then studied German and Slavic Studies. Afterwards she was a lecturer for Russian language at the University of Leipzig. The Hanns Eisler Prize was an East-German music award, named after the composer Hanns Eisler. It was awarded by Radio DDR – with advisory participation of the music section of the Akademie der Künste der DDR in Berlin (East) and the (VDK) – and on the occasion of his 70th birthday on 6 July 1968, the first time in the ballroom of the . The Hanns Eisler Prize was endowed with 10,000 marks and was one of the most renowned music prizes in the German Democratic Republic. Bad Liebenwerda () is a spa town in the Elbe-Elster district, in southwestern Brandenburg, Germany. It is situated on the river Schwarze Elster, 57 km northwest of Dresden, and 28 km east of Torgau. History The first written mention is from the ''Lievenwerde'' in 1231. The meaning of the name is ''Live'', or ''Lieb'' for life or lovely, and -''werde'' from ''werda'' meaning island, high place in water. Manfred Weiss (composer)
Manfred Weiss (12 February 1935 – 25 April 2023) was a German composer especially of symphonies, concertos and vocal music, based in Dresden. He taught composition and music theory at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber from 1959, as professor from 1983 to 1997, influencing generations of composers, and instrumental in the restructuring of the music department after the German reunification. Life Weiss was born in Niesky, Upper Lusatia. He grew up in a missionary family of the Herrnhut Brethren Community. He received violin lessons in Niesky and piano lessons in Görlitz in childhood. He also sang in the church choir and played the organ. At the age of twelve he composed his first pieces.
