Gotham Independent Film Awards 2001
The 11th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project, were held on October 1, 2001 and were hosted by Andy Dick. At the ceremony, Robert De Niro was honored with a Career Tribute, Edet Belzberg received the Anthony Radziwell Documentary Achievement Award and Uma Thurman was awarded the Actor Award. For the first and only time an Independent Vision Award was given out in memory of William J. Nisselson, longtime manager of the post-production studio ''Sound One Studios'' in New York who died in 2001 at the age of 56. Andy Dick
Andrew Roane Dick (born Andrew Thomlinson; December 21, 1965) is an American comedian, actor, musician, and television and film producer. Known professionally as a comic, his first regular television role was on the short-lived but influential '' Ben Stiller Show''. In the mid-1990s, he had a long-running stint on NBC's ''NewsRadio'' and was a supporting character on ''Less than Perfect''. He briefly had his own program, ''The Andy Dick Show'', on MTV. Yolonda Ross is an American actress, writer and director. Life and career Ross was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. ''Wet Hot American Summer'' is a 2001 American teen comedy film directed by David Wain from a screenplay written by Wain and Michael Showalter. Randy Redroad
Randy Redroad is a film director, film editor, writer and songwriter. He is best known for his films ''The Doe Boy'' (2001) and ''Among Ravens'' (2014). Early life and education Redroad was born Randolph Kendall Snapp on Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL., where his father was temporarily stationed for flight training. His family returned to Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX. two weeks after he was born. He moved to New York City in the mid 1980s, where he worked as a bike messenger and, later, a waiter, eventually becoming interested in filmmaking, because it was the one art form that contained all the others. The Contenders
''The Contenders'' is a 14-program series that was produced and aired by C-SPAN in the fall of 2011. It looked at the lives and careers of 14 candidates for the presidency of the United States who were determined to have made significant impacts on U.S. politics despite not having won the presidency. Most episodes were broadcast from a location of significance to the person being profiled, and featured interviews and discussion with a variety of experts. Daniel Minahan
Daniel Minahan (born 1962) is an American television and film director and writer. Stranger Inside
''Stranger Inside'' is a made-for-television crime drama film directed by Cheryl Dunye that premiered on cable television in 2001. The story primarily concerns African-American lesbians in prison. Michael Stipe, the lead singer of R.E.M., helped to produce it. In a 2004 issue of ''Feminist Studies'', Dunye stated that she worked with actual female inmates to produce the script. Independent Filmmaker Project
The Gotham Film & Media Institute (also simply the Gotham), formerly known as the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), is a membership-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to independent film. It offers programs that assist independent filmmakers in connecting with film-industry professionals and, ultimately, audiences, and presents the annual Gotham Awards. It was founded in 1979 by independent filmmakers as the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP). Under the IFP umbrella, the New York City organization has over 5,000 members. Affiliated regional organizations are based in Chicago, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix, and Seattle. Since March 2019, Jeffrey Sharp has been the executive director of the organization. In January 2021, the IFP announced its rebranding as the Gotham Film & Media Institute.
