Gorkovskaya (Saint Petersburg Metro)
Gorkovskaya (russian: Го́рьковская) is a station on the Moskovsko-Petrogradskaya Line of the Saint Petersburg Metro. It was designed by A.S. Getskin, V.P. Shuvalova, S.L.Mihaylov, H.I. Bashnin, S.I. Evdokimov, A.P. Izoitko and E.I. Travnikov. It opened on July 1, 1963. The station's name was derived from Maxim Gorky Avenue (later renamed Kronverskiy Avenue). The station was designed as a tribute to the writer. The ground-level vestibule is located at the intersection between Kamennoostrovsky and Kronverksky Prospects. The vestibule is designed to withstand a direct impact during carpet bombing. The station closed in October 2008 for a 14-month reconstruction and reopened in December 2009 as initially planned. Gorkovskaya (Nizhny Novgorod Metro)
Gorkovskaya () is a station on the Nizhny Novgorod Metro and is the northern terminus on the Avtozavodskaya line. It opened on November 4, 2012. It is also the only station on the right bank of the Oka River in the historic Upper City section of Nizhny Novgorod. The station is named for Gorky Square, under which the station is situated. Maxim Gorky was born in Nizhny Novgorod and the city was itself named ''Gorky'' until 1990. Construction Construction of the station itself took four years and cost 20 billion rubles. The plans for a station in the Upper City were developed in 1987 in conjunction with the planned construction of the Metromost bridge over the Oka. Construction on the bridge started in 1992, but a lack of a financing interrupted the work several times. The work restarted in 2006 with the initial phase opening in 2009. The Nizhny Novgorod Metro (russian: Нижегородское метро), formerly known as the Gorky Metro (russian: Горьковское метро), is a rapid-transit system which serves the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Opened in 1985, it consists of 15 stations and is long. The metro connects with the City Rail system at the Moskovskaya station. It has the third-largest number of stations of any Russian subway system, the largest two being Moscow and St. Petersburg. History Nizhny Novgorod (known during the Soviet era as Gorky) is a large city on the Volga River. In the mid-1970s its population exceeded one million, meeting the Soviet requirement for the development of a rapid-transit system.
