Gordon Henderson (lawyer)
Gordon Fripp Henderson, (April 17, 1912 – August 17, 1993) was a Canadian intellectual property lawyer who joined the law firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP in 1937, and later became its chairman. He was known for his advocacy on intellectual property matters as well as his involvement in intellectual property organizations throughout his career. He served as president of the Canadian Bar Association and was a Companion of the Order of Canada. Henderson's contribution to the development of Canadian and international jurisprudence is described as one of the most significant in Canadian legal history. Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (Gowlings) was a Canadian and international law firm, with about 700 legal professionals in 10 offices in Canada and as well as London, Moscow, and Beijing. Call To The Bar
The call to the bar is a legal term of art in most common law jurisdictions where persons must be qualified to be allowed to argue in court on behalf of another party and are then said to have been "called to the bar" or to have received "call to the bar". "The bar" is now used as a collective noun for barristers, but literally referred to the wooden barrier in old courtrooms, which separated the often crowded public area at the rear from the space near the judges reserved for those having business with the court. Barristers would sit or stand immediately behind it, facing the judge, and could use it as a table for their briefs. Selkirk Communications was a Canadian radio and television broadcasting company, which operated from 1959 to 1989. Evolving out of Taylor, Pearson & Carson, a local broadcaster in Vancouver founded in 1934, the company grew to own 14 radio stations, six television stations (three wholly owned and three partially owned) and cable television holdings across Canada and the world. Selkirk was eventually acquired by Maclean-Hunter in 1988. Ottawa Rough Riders
The Ottawa Rough Riders were a Canadian Football League team based in Ottawa, Ontario, founded in 1876. Formerly one of the oldest and longest-lived professional sports teams in North America, the Rough Riders won the Grey Cup championship nine times. Their most dominant era was the 1960s and 1970s, in which they won five Grey Cups. Stuart Alexander Henderson
Stuart Alexander Henderson (September 19, 1863 – February 17, 1945) was a Scottish-born lawyer and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Yale from 1903 to 1909 in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Liberal. Henderson was celebrated as the greatest Canadian criminal lawyer of his time. Life and career He was born in Lonmay, Aberdeenshire, the son of William Henderson and Mary Jane Smith. He came to Ontario with his father in 1872 and was educated in Ottawa, at Toronto University and at Osgoode Hall. While in Ontario, he served as a lieutenant in the militia. Henderson was also an Ottawa alderman. He came to British Columbia in 1897 and entered the practice of law there the following year. He was the Resident Architect for the Department of Public Works in British Columbia. Life and career Henderson was born in Lonmay, Aberdeenshire, to a family of architects. He became a stone cutter at the age of 13, and in 1857, he emigrated to Canada. In 1861 he moved back to Scotland, where he married his first wife, Mary Jane Smith.
