Gordon Gair
Gordon Gair Sr. (August 17, 1916 – April 23, 2009) was a Canadian lacrosse player and who has been inducted in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Born in the Toronto suburb of Mimico, he was one of four lacrosse playing brothers, three of whom are in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. His brothers Norman and Jack are also in the Hall of Fame. His other brother, Lloyd, also played for many years. Gair was also first cousin to Ken Dixon and Archie Dixon, both of whom are also in the Hall of Fame. Gair is the father of Graeme Gair, who also had an outstanding career and is the grandfather of current star, Jackson Gair. Gair still holds the OLA Major Series record for most goals in a game, with 14, scored on August 24, 1946, against the Orillia Terriers, part of his 100-goal season. Lacrosse Forwards
Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. The sport has four versions that have different sticks, fields, rules and equipment: field lacrosse, women's lacrosse, box lacrosse and intercrosse. Powassan, Ontario
Powassan is a municipality in the Canadian province of Ontario, located near North Bay. Powassan is located in the Almaguin Highlands region of Parry Sound District, at its easternmost boundary with the Nipissing District. The municipality includes the population centres of Powassan and Trout Creek, both along Highway 11. History Taken from a First Nations name that means "bend", Powassan's original settlement was at the bend of the South River. The location today is known as the Bingham Chute, and is where the present hydro plant is. The village of Powassan began in/about 1880 with the construction of a sawmill and a grist mill. Mill employees built their houses in that section of the village. A construction camp for the Northern and Pacific Junction Railway was established at Powassan in 1885. Ken Dixon (lacrosse)
Kenneth John Dixon (born October 17, 1960), is an American former professional baseball player who pitched in Major League Baseball from 1984 to 1987. He was drafted in 1980 by the Baltimore Orioles in the third round out of Amherst County High School. Dixon played for the Orioles before being traded to the Seattle Mariners for Mike Morgan, though he never pitched in the majors thereafter. Pro career Ken Dixon was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the third round of the 1980 Amateur Draft. from there Baltimore assigned Dixon to the Bluefield Orioles, the rookie league affiliate in the Appalachian League.
