Gopinath (film)
Gopinath is a 1948 Bollywood film, written, produced and directed by Mahesh Kaul. It starred Raj Kapoor, Tripti Mitra, Latika, Mahesh Kaul and Baby Zubeida. The music was composed by Ninu Muzumdar, with lyrics by Surdas, Meerabai and Ram Moorti. Plot The story is about Mohan (Raj Kapoor), who wants to write stories for films. His mother (Anwaribai), a heart patient, would like to see him married to Gopi (Tripti Mitra), a friend's daughter staying with them. Gopi has come from the village to Bombay with her brother, who's going to Africa for a job. On Mohan's mother's request and at Gopi's insistence, the brother departs without her. Gopi has been in love with Mohan from their childhood days in the village. Mohan is not interested in her and instead gets involved with Neela Devi (Latika), a famous film star. Mahesh Kaul
Mahesh Kaul (10 April 1911 – 2 July 1972) was an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor who primarily worked in Bollywood film industry during his career span. Kaul is known for his contribution to the cinema of India. He mainly worked as a director in several films such as ''Talaq'', '' Jeewan Jyoti'', '' Diwana'', '' Sapnon Ka Saudagar'' among others. Biography Mahesh was born on 10 April 1911 in Jodhpur State, British India. He was originally worked in films as a lyricist and dialogue-writer and made his first entry in bollywood with Naya Sansar (1941) film which was filmed at Mumbai starring Ashok Kumar and Renuka Devi. Randhir (actor)
Randhir was an Indian character actor in Hindi and Punjabi films who was active from the 1940s to the 1980s. He appeared in over 172 films. Originally, he played side heroes or the friend of the hero. On a few occasions, he even played the hero. One of his most famous hero's friend roles was in ''Dil Deke Dekho'' (1959). The 1960s was a period of transition. Due to his age and displacement from hero's friend roles by comedians, Randhir began to experiment with character roles. He had done such roles in the 1950s and 1940s as well. In the mid-1960s, he frequently played Maharajas in costume films. Randhir began adopting the moneylender 'lala' role around the end of the 1960s. His role in ''Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi'' (1967) may be one of his earliest in this form, but it was a rough exhibition of what was to come. Shamshad Begum (Hindi: शमशाद बेगम, IAST: ''Śamśād Bēgam''; 14 April 1919 – 23 April 2013) was an Indian singer who was one of the first playback singers in the Hindi film industry. Notable for her distinctive voice and range, she sang over 6,000 songs in Hindustani, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, and Punjabi languages, among which 1287 were Hindi film songs. She worked with renowned composers of the time, such as Naushad Ali and O. P. Nayyar, for whom she was one of their favorites. Her songs from the 1940s to the early 1970s remain popular and continue to be remixed. Meena Kapoor
Meena Kapoor (1930 in Kolkata (then Calcutta) – 23 November 2017) was an Indian playback singer. She was the daughter of actor Bikram Kapoor who worked with the New Theatres studio. Her family was also related to famed filmmaker PC Barua. Meena's singing was noticed at a young age by composers like Ninu Mazumdar and SD Burman. She was a playback singer in Hindi cinema, during the 1940s and 1950s, singing hits such as "Rasiya Re Man Basiya Re" from ''Pardesi'' (1957), Ek Dharti Hai Ek Gagan from Adhikar (1954) and 'Kachhi hai Umariya' picturised on Meena Kumari in ''Char Dil Char Rahen'' (1959). Meerabai
Meera, better known as Mirabai and venerated as Sant Meerabai, was a 16th-century Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Krishna. She is a celebrated Bhakti saint, particularly in the North Indian Hindu tradition. Surdas (IAST: Sūr, Devanagari: सूर) was a 16th-century blind Hindu devotional poet and singer, who was known for his works written in praise of Krishna, the supreme lord. He was a Vaishnava devotee of Lord Krishna, and he was also a revered poet and singer. His compositions glorified and captured his devotion towards lord Krishna. Most of his poems were written in the Braj language, while some were also written in other dialects of medieval Hindi, like Awadhi.
