Goolwa South
__NOTOC__ Goolwa South (previously known as South Goolwa) is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about south of the state capital of Adelaide on both on the southern continental coastline and the south-western coast of Lake Alexandrina. It occupies the full extent of the Sir Richard Peninsula, land to the immediate west and part of the Goolwa Channel in the lake system to its north. The name was first used in respect to a private sub-division of land within the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Goolwa in 1925. Boundaries were created for the “long established name” in 1993 and were again adjusted in August 2000 to include the Sir Richard Peninsula in the adjoining Hundred of Nangkita. The western end of the locality is occupied by an urban area which extends into the adjoining localities of Goolwa and Goolwa Beach while the remainder of the locality is zoned for conservation and includes part of the Coorong National Park. The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), formerly the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI), is a large department of the government of South Australia. The Division of Mayo is an Australian electoral division located to the east and south of Adelaide, South Australia. Created in the state redistribution of 3 September 1984, the division is named after Helen Mayo, a social activist and the first woman elected to an Australian University Council. Coorong National Park
Coorong National Park is a protected area located in South Australia about south-east of Adelaide, that predominantly covers a coastal lagoon ecosystem officially known as The Coorong and the Younghusband Peninsula on the Coorong's southern side. The western end of the Coorong lagoon is at the Murray Mouth near Hindmarsh Island and the Sir Richard Peninsula, and it extends about south-eastwards. Road access is from Meningie. The beach on the coastal side of the peninsula, the longest in Australia, is also commonly called The Coorong. The Coorong lies within the traditional lands of the Ngarrindjeri people, an Aboriginal Australian group. Cadastral Divisions Of South Australia
The lands administrative divisions of South Australia are the cadastral (i.e., comprehensively surveyed and mapped) units of counties and hundreds in South Australia. They are located only in the south-eastern part of the state, and do not cover the whole state. 49 counties have been proclaimed across the southern and southeastern areas of the state historically considered to be arable and thus in need of a cadastre. Sir Richard Peninsula is a narrow peninsula consisting of sand which extends from Goolwa, South Australia to the Murray Mouth. It separates the Goolwa Channel, which is part of the estuary of the River Murray, from Encounter Bay. It is approximately in length and ranges from to in width. Lake Alexandrina is a coastal freshwater lake located between the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island and Murray and Mallee regions of South Australia, about south-east of Adelaide. The lake adjoins the smaller Lake Albert (together known as the Lower Lakes) and a coastal lagoon called The Coorong to its southeast, before draining into the Great Australian Bight via a short, narrow opening known as Murray Mouth.
