Electoral District Of Finniss
Finniss is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is named after B. T. Finniss, the first Premier of South Australia. It covers a regional area which includes the localities of Back Valley, Currency Creek, Encounter Bay, Finniss, Goolwa, Goolwa Beach, Goolwa North, Goolwa South, Hayborough, Hindmarsh Island, Hindmarsh Tiers, Hindmarsh Valley, Lower Inman Valley, McCracken, Middleton, Mosquito Hill, Mount Compass, Mount Observation, Mundoo Island, Nangkita, Port Elliot, Tooperang, and Victor Harbor; as well as parts of Inman Valley and Waitpinga. Finniss has been a very safe seat for the Liberal Party since its creation at the 1991 electoral redistribution as a replacement for the equally safe Alexandra. Goolwa South, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Goolwa South (previously known as South Goolwa) is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about south of the state capital of Adelaide on both on the southern continental coastline and the south-western coast of Lake Alexandrina. It occupies the full extent of the Sir Richard Peninsula, land to the immediate west and part of the Goolwa Channel in the lake system to its north. The name was first used in respect to a private sub-division of land within the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Goolwa in 1925. Boundaries were created for the “long established name” in 1993 and were again adjusted in August 2000 to include the Sir Richard Peninsula in the adjoining Hundred of Nangkita. Port Elliot, South Australia
Port Elliot is a town in South Australia toward the eastern end of the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is situated on the sheltered Horseshoe Bay, a small bay off the much larger Encounter Bay. Pullen Island lies outside the mouth of the bay. At the , Port Elliot had a population of 1,754, although this section of the coast is now built up almost all the way from Goolwa to Victor Harbor. Lady Bay is a small bay at the south-western end of Horseshoe Bay, past the jetty. History Horseshoe Bay was proclaimed a port in 1851, and the settlement above the bay was named Port Elliot in 1852 after Charles Elliot, the Governor of Bermuda who was a friend of the then Governor of South Australia, Sir Henry Young. Nangkita, South Australia
Nangkita is a rural locality on Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, south of the capital, Adelaide. Nangkita was founded as a Village Settlement in the 1890s as a commune in a scheme set up by the South Australian government under Part VII of the Crown Lands Amendment Act 1893, intended to mitigate the effects of the depression then affecting the Colony. The settlement grew a magnificent crop of tobacco, but the potato and onion crops were ravaged by grubs. The commune closed not long after that. Mundoo Island, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Mundoo Island is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on Mundoo Island and some adjoining water at the southern end of Lake Alexandrina about south-east of the state capital of Adelaide. Its boundaries were created on 31 August 2000 for the ‘long established name’ which is derived from the island and ultimately from an Aboriginal word 'mundo' which means ‘mud’ or ‘filth.' In 2014, a portion of land was ‘excluded’ from the locality and “added to Hindmarsh Island to ensure the whole of Hindmarsh Island is within the rural locality of Hindmarsh Island.” The locality consists of Mundoo Island and a portion of the following waterways adjoining the island - the channel known as the Lower Murray (or the Goolwa) in the north, Boundary Creek to the east and the south-east, the Coorong Channel in the south, the Mundoo Channel in the south-west and Holmes Creek to the west and the north-west. Middleton is a town in South Australia on the eastern end of the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It lies between the towns of Port Elliot and Goolwa. Middleton is a holiday and tourist destination with a popular surf beach. Some southern right whales calve and mate in the waters off Middleton's beaches and can be viewed from Middleton Point or Bashams Beach during the whale watching season (June or July to October).
