Google Currents
Google Currents, formerly known as Google+ for G Suite, is software developed by Google for internal enterprise communication. It is one of many products that constitute the Google Workspace line of products. Google Currents is different from the defunct Google app of the same name, which provided users with access to an electronic library of magazines from 2011 to 2013. It will be replaced by the Spaces feature in Google Chat in 2023. History and development Originally called Google+ for G Suite, Currents is the sole remnant of Google's defunct social network Google+, which the company shut down entirely for personal and brand use on April 2, 2019. As of June 2020, Google Currents is in Public Beta for Google Workspace clients. A free trial can be requested. On February 10, 2022, Google announced that it would be planning to "wind down" Google Currents and transition its users to the Spaces feature in Google Chat the next year. Android (operating System)
Android is a mobile operating system based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open-source software, designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Google Chat (formerly known as Hangouts Chat) is a Communication software, communication service developed by Google. Initially designed for teams and business environments, it has since been made available for general consumers. It provides Private message, direct message, group conversations, and spaces, which allow users to create and assign tasks and share files in a central place in addition to chatting. It can be accessed through its own website and app or through the Gmail website and app. It was first launched on March 9, 2017, as one of the two apps that constitute the replacement for Google Hangouts, the other being Google Meet. Google Currents (2011–2013)
Google Currents was an app developed by Google that provided subscribers with electronic access to full-length magazine articles. Google released Currents in December 2011 and discontinued it in November 2013 when it introduced Google Play Newsstand, which combined the features of Currents and Google Play Magazines into a single product. Google partnered with more than 150 publishers in order to provide electronic access to full-length magazine articles. Content was optimized for smartphones and tablets, allowing users to intuitively navigate between words, pictures and videos on both large and small screens. Google Wave, later known as Apache Wave, was a software framework for real-time collaborative editing online. Originally developed by Google and announced on May 28, 2009, it was renamed to ''Apache Wave'' when the project was adopted by the Apache Software Foundation as an incubator project in 2010. Wave is a web-based computing platform and communications protocol designed to merge key features of communications media, such as email, instant messaging, wikis, and social networking. Google Buzz
Google Buzz was a social networking, microblogging and messaging tool that was developed by Google which replaced Google Wave and integrated into their web-based email program, Gmail. Users could share links, photos, videos, status messages and comments organized in "conversations" and visible in the user's inbox. On October 14, 2011, Google announced that it would discontinue the service and that the existing content would be available in read-only mode. Buzz was discontinued on December 15, 2011, and superseded by Google+ (which was later discontinued on April 2, 2019). Yammer () is an enterprise social networking service that is part of the Microsoft 365 family of products. It is used mainly for private communication within organizations but is also used for networks spanning various organizations.
